Singing at Mass: If you are able to sing reasonably well and are prepared to sing the psalm at
11am Mass on a rota basis, then please let Fr. Michael know as soon as possible, as we really
need some new singers.
Light of Jesus: Every Sunday the Light of Jesus Filipino Community meets in the hall from
2pm – 4pm. Anyone who would like to join their lunch; praise and worship are welcome to
attend.
Cleaning Church: We could do with some more help cleaning the Church. The next time the
cleaners will come will be this Friday 30th October at 6pm. Do come and join them just for one
hour.
Tea and Coffee: will be available after 11.00 Mass in the church hall. All parishioners and
visitors are welcome. We would be grateful for more volunteers to help with making the tea and
coffee after this Mass. Many thanks.
The Faith Sharing Prayer Group: Meeting each week on Tuesday at 1.30pm in the Hall.
Legion of Mary: Meet every Tuesday at 6.45pm in the Hall
Children’s Liturgy of the Word: Please note that every two weeks at the 11am Sunday Mass
we have a “Children’s Liturgy of The Word”. If you have a child over four years, they are very
welcome to come along. Please encourage them to get involved. All they need to do is to come
to the front of the Church when called by Fr. Michael and they will return at the Offertory. Do
tell others about this opportunity for children here in our parish.
Candles: Just to remind you that candles at our statues are not free. The cost per candle is
25p. This is very reasonable as some of our neighbouring parishes charge 40p per candle. I
would therefore ask that everybody pays for lighting a candle.
APF Boxes: Those who have given in their APF Boxes to be emptied can collect their boxes
from the church porch this weekend. Many thanks for your support.

Every Saturday afternoon, there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 5.00pm
to Benediction at 5.30pm.
Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Saturday at 7.00pm.
Fr Michael writes: Often the blind see more than those who have sight. This is not a
contradiction. There are many ways of “seeing” than through the eyes. In today’s Gospel
we meet a man called Bartimaeus. He had never set eyes on Jesus – he was blind. Yet
he had more faith in Jesus than many of those who saw him. We can all feel in the dark
at times, cut off from that which makes life beautiful, happy and worthwhile. We find
ourselves on the margin of things. We are no longer useful. Without love the world is
very dark. At those times we lose our way and our hope. We must have the courage and
the humility to cry out to Christ:- “Lord that I may see”.

Sick and Retired Priests Fund: Next weekend there is a retiring collection for the sick
and retired priests of our Diocese. This collection is held just once a year. The fund was
set up by Cardinal Hume in 1979 to ensure that elderly priests receive the care and
support that they need. We have over 100 sick, infirm and retired priests now and over
the next few years half our priests are due to retire. Supporting this increasing number of
elderly priests could mean that the Sick and Retired Priests Fund simply runs out of
money despite the generosity of so many in the Growing in Faith Campaign. It means
that we must all contribute as much as we can afford to this collection. Envelopes are
available at the back of the Church. Please return them next weekend.
Clocks Change: I hope you remembered to put your clock back one hour.
Mass Count: This weekend again, and for another week we have our annual Mass
count. These figures are required by the Diocese every year.
Christmas Fair: This weekend again we will have our Bin out for Christmas Fair items.
We need Auction items; Bric a Brac; Books; CD’s; DVD’s; Designer Handbags; Toys;
Bottles of Spirits and Wines; Restaurant Vouchers; Only new or nearly new clothes;
cakes; groceries, Jewellery; Christmas Gifts. If you can face paint for children please let
me know or can help with children’s activities.
This year’s Christmas Fair will take place on Saturday 28 th November from 11am
to 2pm. If you have a favourite shop, restaurant, pub, please take a letter from the
porch asking for a gift or a voucher.
New Parishioners: If you moved here to our parish, I would be grateful if you could tell
me at the end of Mass so that I can give you a Parish Registration Form to complete.
Mothers and Toddlers: The mothers and Toddlers group meet on Mondays in the
Lower Hall from 10.30am to 12 noon. Do come along and meet Fiorenza who will
welcome both you and your child to the group.
RCIA: The RCIA for this year began two weeks ago. If you know of someone –
husband, wife, friend who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling
them to become a Catholic then please ask them and if so either you or they can contact
me and I will give further information. The important thing to remember is that we are
all called to be evangelizers and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. This is the last
opportunity to join this group for this year.
Parish Carol Service: This year’s Parish Carol Service will take place on Sunday 13th
December at 7pm. If you play a musical instrument or sing well do let Fr. Michael
know.
Advent Afternoon for Children: This year, with the help of the Children’s Liturgy
Catechists we are holding an Advent afternoon for children. This will take place on
Saturday 5th December in the Lower Hall from 2pm – 4pm. The children will have the
opportunity to take part in activities and make things connected with Advent and
Christmas. To cover the cost of materials and refreshments tickets are £2 per child on
sale now and can be obtained from the Parish Office or Repository.
For your Diary: This year for the Year of Mercy I am going to conduct four Advent
Mission Evenings in our Church as follows:Tuesday 24th November at 7.30pm Isaiah in Advent
Tuesday 1st December at 7.30pm St. John the Baptist preparing the way
Tuesday 8th December at 7.30pm Mary and the Child
Tuesday 15th December at 7.30pm Parish Reconciliation Service and Confessions
Year of Mercy: You will have no doubt seen and heard that Pope Francis has
declared that 2016 will be a Year of Mercy. He wishes that all of us renew our lives
in the grace of God’s unending mercy. The year will begin on 8th December.
Westminster Cathedral and a few other Churches in the Diocese have been designated
as having a Holy Door for the forthcoming Year of Mercy for the benefit of the
indulgences attached to it and a place where pilgrims will be provided with a “Way of
Mercy” for those entering the Holy Door.
Our Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary has been designated as one to have a Holy
Door for those who wish to seek the indulgences of visiting here. This is a
tremendous privilege for us all and we pray that all we welcome here during the Holy
Year of Mercy may find here the face of Christ’s Mercy.
