Fr Michael writes: We don’t often think of Jesus as being angry. Indeed, he is usually
portrayed as gentle and forgiving – even at the Passion and the Crucifixion. But he is
definitely angry in today’s Gospel. What has made him so? It is not anything that has
been said or done to him directly. Jesus is angry because of the way in which others are
treating his Father’s house. We do well to think therefore, how we treat God’s house?
Do we visit it regularly to pray, to attend Mass? Do we act quietly, prayerfully and
reverently? Do we allow others the peace and space to pray? Do we welcome those who
are obviously visitors so that they feel at home with us? After all, what we have here is
far more important than the Temple in Jerusalem. We have here what Jesus talks of in
the Gospel, the sanctuary of his Body, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.
Lent: We are now at the third week of Lent. If you feel you have not begun or failed
miserably, do not worry, just begin again. Here are some suggestions:Weekday Mass: 12.30pm Monday to Saturday and 6pm Tuesday and Thursday. Why
not try to come to Mass each day during Lent?
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Saturday at 5pm until 5.30pm why not take the
time to pop into Church even for a few minutes to keep company with Jesus in the
Blessed Sacrament?
Rosary: Every day at 1pm Monday to Saturday, the Rosary is said here in our Church.
You would be most welcome to join.
Stations of the Cross: Will take place every Friday during Lent at 7pm in our Church.
Confessions: Take place every Saturday morning in our Church at 11.00am to 11.30am
and 5pm – 5.30pm. Why not try to get into the habit of coming regularly to Confession
and encouraging your family to come too.
Faith Sharing Group: Meets every Tuesday at 1.30pm in the Hall. You would be
welcome or the Faith Sharing Book “Anointed” is available to buy in the repository and
you may wish to use it at home with your family; friends or neighbours during Lent.
Lenten Alms: This year the Cardinal has chosen “Caritas” for Lenten Alms. There is a
wall box marked Lenten Alms for your donations.
Offertory Collection: You may wish to put a little extra into the Offertory collections
each week so that we can pay the bills easier.
RCIA: Please pray for Tatiana and Matthew who are to be received fully into our
Church at the Easter Vigil.
Leaflets: “The Call, The Journey and the Mission are available in the porch. These have
been printed to assist those who have responded to the Cardinal’s invitation to reflect on
marriage and family life and answer the questions on marriage and family life to be sent
to Mr. Edmund Adamus at Vaughan House, 46 Francis St. SW1P 1QN. These will be
collated and assist the Cardinal at the next part of the Synod to be held in Rome in
October.
Planned Giving Envelopes: This weekend the new boxes of envelopes for planned
giving are available in the porch. They should not be used until the weekend of 11th/12th
April. Please take a few minutes to collect your box. If you are new to the parish or
would like a box of envelopes, or to join the Gift Aid Scheme or would like to pay by
Bankers Order, please complete a form at the end of the row and put it into the box
marked “Forms for Planned Giving”. We will then arrange for your request. Please
consider carefully what you put into the bag at the Offertory. The weekly collection does
not meet the costs of running this parish.
General Election: As you know a General Election is to take place in May in this
country. In preparation the Bishops of England and Wales have issued a letter to all
Catholics with matters for them to consider carefully before we cast our vote. Please
take a copy from the porch of the church and take the time to read it.
