Director of Student Life HIGHLAND and HARVEY PARK Campuses Our Mission: Through a demanding education based on high standards, accountability, and structure, West Denver Preparatory Charter School prepares students in grades six through eight for educational success from middle school through college. West Denver Preparatory Charter School, a successful charter school network of four Denver schools serving predominantly students of color from low-income families, will serve approximately 1100 middle school students in the 2011-2012 school year. West Denver Prep seeks to build upon strong academic student progress, intense community demand, strong school leadership and capacity, and a clear vision for urban school reform. Last year, West Denver Prep’s two schools ranked first and second in secondary school performance among Denver schools and first and second in student academic growth among all Colorado middle schools. West Denver Prep seeks Directors of Student Life to support this work on several of its four campuses. The Director of Student Life will report to the Principal and assume significant leadership responsibilities in areas of school culture and individual student and parent support. School Culture Community Primary Responsibilities Implement and oversee effective, building-wide, consistent student discipline system. Implement character education program. Provide daily leadership of community gatherings that set tone for academic program Implement engaging extracurricular offerings for students in sports, arts, and other areas of interest. Oversee all aspects of parent engagement and communication, including home visits, parent calls, and conference events. Ensure a high level of parent satisfaction. Ensure a high level of parent participation. Ensure excellent student attendance. Performance Indicators may include: Student discipline issues are handled quickly, fairly, and with a strong emphasis toward preserving classroom learning. Daily and weekly community gatherings showcase student learning, teach selfadvocacy and public speaking skills, and strengthen school community. Students engage in extracurricular activities, participate actively in the school community, and maintain strong morale. Each student receives a home visit prior to enrollment. Parent engagement at twice-annual conference nights exceeds 85%. Parent Satisfaction, as measured by their satisfaction with the academic program and the clear and open communication of the staff, will exceed 85% annually. Ensure a 90% rate of return on survey of parent satisfaction. Ensure that 90% of parents attend at least one event at the school. Daily student attendance will exceed 95%. Director of Student Life candidates should demonstrate proven school leadership skills in urban settings with an emphasis on student engagement. Spanish proficiency preferred. Directors of Student Life will begin work July 11th, though resumes will be considered immediately. Compensation is highly competitive; the Director of Student Life is eligible to participate in Colorado’s Public Employee Retirement Association, and eligible for a performance bonus up to 15% of salary.
