It is hard to believe we just put the finishing touches on 2015! The first half of this school year
has been a great success, and I appreciate all of your support in making Rocky Hill the best elementary
school in Knox County.
As we move into the New Year, we have three new teachers with us. Mr. Scott Laverty will be
replacing Mrs. Gentry in 5th grade, Ms. Rachel Ison will be replacing Mrs. Smith in 3 rd grade and Ms.
Megan Ricks will finish the year in Mrs. Davis’/Mrs. Luhn’s classroom. Special recognition goes to Mrs.
Leslie Smith who retired at the end of December. She spent the last ten years of her career at Rocky Hill,
and will be missed as part of the third grade team. We also have a new school security officer, Officer
Davis. We wish Officer Timms all the best in his new position as sergeant for Knox County School
Security Department.
As a reminder, Tennessee is transitioning away from the traditional TCAP and using a new
assessment, TN Ready. TN Ready is Tennessee’s new and improved TCAP test for English language arts and
math in grades 3-11, and it replaces the old TCAP tests for those subjects starting in the 2015-16 school year. The
TN Ready TCAP will provide all of us – educators, parents, and students – with better information about our
students’ progress toward college and career readiness. - See more at:

As we move into the winter months, please make sure children are dressed appropriately. If students do
not have appropriate attire, they will not be allowed to go outside for recess.
On a personal note, I will be out for the next three weeks taking a class for the Army. This class is
job training for my weekend Army responsibilities. Mr. Tod Evans, former principal at Hardin Valley
Elementary, will be assisting Mrs. Kotsianas while I am away. I will have regular access to email while
away if you do need to contact me.
