Nelson`s 9th grade english class

MIDDLESEX COUNTY VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL
EAST BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY
Geometry Honors
Instructor: Mrs. Navarro
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course develops an understanding of the meaning of mathematical proof and deductive
reasoning. Other topics include similarity, circles, area, volume, coordinate geometry and an
introduction to trigonometric functions and their applications to right triangles. This course
requires excellent Algebra skills. The relationships and logic of Geometry are essential for
succeeding courses in advanced mathematics.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 Identify and use parts and types of lines, angles, and planes in problems solving.
 Use logical reasoning and conditional statements to solve problems.
 Use angle relationships with parallel and perpendicular lines to solve problems.
 Use triangle classifications and congruent triangles to solve problems.
 Use the relationships of sides and angles in triangles to solve problems.
 Use properties of quadrilaterals and polygons to solve problems.
 Use proportions to determine similarity of polygons.
 Use right triangle trigonometry to solve problems.
 Recognize and apply properties of transformations.
 Find the areas and perimeters of parallelograms, triangles, circles and special
quadrilaterals.
 Find the lateral area, surface area, and volume of three dimensional figures.
TEXT: Geometry (2009). Pearson, Prentice Hall. Material related to PARCC will be used as
needed.
REQUIRED MATERIAL A scientific calculator is recommended.
Two notebooks (large and small).
CLASS POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

their assigned seat.
4. If no homework is due, follow the instructions written on the board. At the end of class
students will reflect on the lesson and write their reflections in their math journal.
5. You are expected to be in class on time and to remain in your seats until the bell rings.
Do not leave the room without a pass.
6. Proper conduct will be expected at all times. Be Respectful. Disruptive behavior,
profanity, horseplay, fighting, unexcused lates, missing assignments, etc. will result in

problem obtaining a notebook). The notebook must be brought to class everyday.
3. The homework is due the next day it is assigned and it will be checked.
4. When solving problems for homework (as well as tests/quizzes), you must show all your
work, please circle/underline your answer. If work is not shown, no credit will be given.
5. Late homework will not be accepted except in case of excused absence.
Tests/Quizzes
1. Tests will be announced at least one day in advance. Quizzes may or may not be
announced.
