MINUTES OF PUPIL COUNCIL MEETING 27th September 2012 Minutes: Absent: Mrs Cartwright Sam Carroll Welcome to all Mrs Frew welcomed reps to the meeting. Nature Lab fundraising event The fantastic total of £758.97 was raised at our Dress as You Please day. The result of the vote to name the outside area was as follows:- Nature Lab 115, Eco Den 93, Science Station 69, Green Zone 55, Outdoor Warehouse 40, Nature 4 U 34, Nature Discovery Area 29. Issues and ideas from classes P3b There should be a painted line at the top of the steps to separate the P3 and P4 playgrounds – Mr Maxwell could do this. P4d Children peep under the toilet cubicles – this should be reported to class teachers. P5b It is often the wrong pupils using the MUGA and football being played in the wrong weeks – Mrs Cartwright will email the PSAs to ask them to prevent this happening and to ensure all pupils play in their designated areas. More MUGA timetables will be posted at exits to the playground. P6a Louis was unable to attend with his football ideas. P6b To stop wrong lunches being taken, pupils should always have to produce their coloured bands – this is a query for Miss Hall when she visits. P6c Perhaps there will be vandalism at our new Nature Lab – the area is overlooked by houses (just like the Active Trail which has never been vandalised) so any trouble will be reported to the police as well as being caught on CCTV. Bands should be issued for all hot and cold lunches to prevent pupils changing their mind – a point for Miss Hall to answer. P6d Pupils are jumping up to peep over toilet cubicles – this should be reported to class teachers. P7a The boys’ toilets are unhygienic, some of the girls’ cubicles do not lock, the water is too hot and the paper towel holders are loose – Kerry will report these issues to Mr Maxwell. The playground pencils need repainted – we could ask the PTA to help with this. P7b It would be a good idea for a professional artist to decorate the kickabout wall – perhaps the PTA could look into this too. P7d Cahal is going to check the opening times of the MUGA with Mr Maxwell. School Improvement Survey More playground activities were requested and the new Nature Lab will help with this because stages can be timetabled to use it at break/lunch times. More bins were also requested so Hannah is going to speak to Mr Maxwell about this. Uniform In response to the ERC ‘Dressing for Excellence’ policy, P6 and P7 now wear shirts and ties every day. The Parent Council will be seeking the views of pupils in February e.g. what has this done for the school and should it be extended to P4/5? Kerry thinks it looks smart, inspires younger pupils and is good preparation for high school. Katie has noticed an increased number of younger pupils wearing shirts and ties. Date of next meeting Wednesday 10th October, 2012, 1.05pm in the library
