Notebooks Students will complete an assignment sheet each six weeks and keep it in the front of the English notebook. Divide into the following sections: DGP/ vocabulary/ literary terms/notes & journal entries/graded papers/ extra paper Tardies Tardies accumulate per semester. Be in your seat when the bell rings to avoid a tardy. Quizzes or warm-up assignments missed because of a tardy must be made up the next day during tutorials. Regular Absences Check assignment folder for missing work and turn in within 3 days for credit. If you missed a quiz or a test, you need to make arrangements with me to make it up for credit. Once the assigned deadline has passed, quizzes and tests that are not made up will result in a “0” for the grade. Extracurricular Absences You are responsible for getting your work prior to missing class for an extracurricular activity. Complete the “planned absence” form and turn in to me to obtain your work. If you don’t make arrangements with me in advance, the missing work will be considered late. Missing class for extracurricular activities will not excuse you from tests and quizzes. If you are here, you will take them. If you miss one, you need to make arrangements with me to make it up. Late Work All assignments should be turned in on time in order to be prepared for tests and essays. Work not turned in on time will only be accepted one day late. You must attend tutorials in order to turn in a late assignment. 10 points will be deducted from late assignments. Tutoring and Re-test Policy My tutorials begin at 7:45 a.m. M-Fr. See me if you need to arrange a different time. If you want to re-do an eligible test: o See me the day the test is returned to make arrangements. o You must attend a tutorial session within two days in order to redo a test. o The maximum grade for re-tests is 70. o Re-tests will be primarily essay format. Reminders Outside reading is a major part of your English grade. Therefore, it is crucial for you to keep up with your reading. It is your responsibility to check out your books and take care of library fines. Use blue or black pen, and turn in assignments on straight-edge paper. Otherwise, they will have to be re-done during tutorials. While I may occasionally offer “extra-credit” opportunities, these don’t include last minute requests at the end of the six weeks. Be diligent in completing your assignments, and you won’t need extra credit. Keep cell phones put away and on silent. They will be taken up during tests. Please be aware that all written work must follow acceptable guidelines. Profanity, graphic violence, and references to sex, drugs, or suicide in your written work will result in a counseling or office referral. All classroom policies are subject to school policy. Edmodo I will be making supplemental materials available to students online through www.edmodo.com. Students will need an account in order to access the materials. 1. I have read the rules and procedures for Mrs. Wilhoit’s class. 2. I am aware that the definition of plagiarism includes copying someone else’s paper, buying a paper from the Internet, turning in a paper with no citations, and/or using more than three words in a row from the original source. I am aware that all material must be in my own words and cited appropriately according to MLA format. I have been notified that the penalty for plagiarism will be a “0” on the assignment, as well as disciplinary consequences. A “0” could result in failure for the six weeks as well as failure for the semester. 3. In order to provide classroom support for students when they are away from school, I will be posting various documents for English class online. I have set up class accounts at www.edmodo.com. I will provide the class code to students, and they will need to register with a log-in and password. (They do not have to have an email account in order to register. However, students with Gmail accounts will be able to link to documents saved in Google Drive.) Once they have registered, they will be able to see assignments and access resources. In addition, a parent code is available. You may enter the code and create an account which will allow you to access the site. My child may/may not register for an Edmodo account in order to access supplemental documents and resources for English class. 4.
