TRANSNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

The course aims at providing participating
students with a critical analysis of principles,
rules and current trends of international and
European Union environmental law.
The following topics will be addressed in detail:
a) introduction to international environmental law
(sources, subjects, substantive norms,
enforcement);
b) introduction to European Union environmental
law (competence, sources, substantive norms,
impact on domestic legal systems);
c) human rights protection and the environment
(environmental rights and duties in perspective);
d) environmental protection and international
trade;
e) international and European Union marine
environmental law;
d) international and European governance of
atmospheric environment and climate change;
e) waste management and disposal in
international and European Union environmental
law.

Teaching will be heavily based on the study of
relevant case law and implies an informed
participation by the students.
Teaching materials that students are expected to
examine will be posted on the University portal at
the address www.aulaweb.unige.it. In order to
ensure the optimal use of this resource,
students are invited to register as soon as
possible.
Students will be notified in advance of the content
of any particular class and of the materials that
will be discussed therein.

Modalità di svolgimento dell’esame
As a rule, the exam is oral. Participating students
may be given the opportunity to pass the exam in
writing on the subjects that have been discussed
in class during the course.
