The Good News!
• Last year we raised 28K in Falcon Fund – this
year we’ve already Raised 24K!!!
• 32% of our families have already made a
contribution to our schools programs – We
still have 68% left that can help out!
• Carnival had a huge year for fundraising!
The Other News…..
• We need to raise 44K in order to pay
this years bills
• Already cut from our budget:
–School Supervision Personnel: $10k
• We may have to reduce:
–Garden hours
–K-3 Music hours
–Teacher Supply Accounts

• Spread the word! Share tonight’s information
with other parents, encourage them to give.
• Volunteer to make phone calls, 5-15 calls per
class
• Come to the fundraising meeting on 1/22 with
your ideas or contact Amy if you have questions
or ideas
• Volunteer for potential upcoming events such as
a dinner dance, rummage sale, dining events

Professional Development
• Teaching in a way that is effectively aligned
with the Common Core takes practice, effort,
and patience.
• We are accelerating the process by offering
extensive professional development for our
teachers.
• Venetia Valley teachers are lifelong learners.
English Language Arts
• Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grade teachers are
working with Laurie Olsen and her team of
coaches.
• They work extensively on thematic unit
planning and English language development
& alignment to common core.
Mathematics
• 4th & 5th grade teachers are working with Hallie
Foster & Julie McNamara on Common Core
alignment & best practices in teaching
mathematics.
• 6th-8th grade teachers are also working with
Hallie and Julie, as well as with Davidson & the
high schools on Common Core & vertical
alignment as they articulate across the grade
levels 6-12.
Science, Social Studies, English
• 6-8 teachers are working with Phyllis
Goldsmith & Emily Richards, of the UC
Berkeley History-Social Science project, on
cross-discipline writing strategies.
• Literacy leads in ELA and Science attend
articulation meetings with DMS & high school
leads.
• K-5 teachers are working with Phyllis & Emily
on writing prompts and strategies.
