Glossary
Ad Unit: Most granular unit. Must be uniquely named. Only
one ad size, for only one site, for only one spot on the site.
Example: Delmarva_300x250. It's naming the spot on the site
where the ad will show up. You will need ad unit names to
traffic ads into Core Publisher.
Order: Imagine this is the advertiser's actual order for ads.
Many orders can deliver ads into one ad unit.
Line Item: Orders contain line items. Line items list the specific
number of impressions and any other trafficking info related to
the ad buy, like frequency, number of impressions, geography.
Creative: The actual ad that is displayed. These can be
images, third-party code, and more.
Order of what to do in DFP
1. inventory > Ad Units > Create an Ad Unit (this is the name
you will add in CP)
(ignore placements)
2. Orders >
3. Line item > attach an ad unit to the line item
4. Add Creative
How to add an ad unit.
Inventory tab > New Ad Unit > Web
Give ad units UNIQUE names, e.g. like KUNC_728_HP.
Something that tells you where the ad should show up.
Choose the correct size. Ignore placements for now.
Then . . .
1. Create an order (this is defined by the advertiser, so in
most cases it can simply be WTST House Ads, for example).
2. Add a line item (in theory you can add more than one ad
size, but we don't do that). Line items are where you define
how many impressions an ad should get, when it should be
shown, to whom.
Creating an
order and a
line item.
Note: When
saving you
will probably
get a
message that
says there is
not enough
inventory.
Simply
override.
