GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER Lyle F. and Jack H. 4th Grade Mrs. Hart EARLY LIFE George Washington Carver was born in 1864 on a farm in Missouri Had a mother and an older brother named Jim He was a slave He got sick a lot People called him the plant doctor His mother was stolen by slave robbers EDUCATION George went to Simpson College and Iowa State College He had to go to blacks only schools He graduated high school in 1884 at age 19 He was a professor at the Tusskee Institute INTERESTS AND HOBBIES George loved to work in the garden He liked to heal sick plants He liked to draw and paint flowers and plants He liked to invent things like ways to use peanuts PROBLEMS AND OBSTACLES George was born into slavery He had to face racism He taught himself to read and paint He had to switch schools a lot because of racist rules ACCOMPLISHMENTS George knew more than the teachers He was hired to work at the college because he was so smart He found many ways to use peanuts!
