From 7 to 10 March Olio Capitale, the exhibition of typical quality extra virgin olive oils
organizedbytheChamberofCommerceofTriestethroughitsspecialcompanyAries,returns
toTrieste'ssplendidStazioneMarittima.Anexceptionallocation,surroundedbytheseaand
atthesametimelocatedintheheartofthecity,allowingvisitorstocombinethegoodnessof
the oil with the beauty of Trieste. A unique opportunity both for professionals of the food
sector who want to discover new very high quality oils for their customers and for the
enthusiastwho does not want tomiss out on oils capable of enhancingtheflavour ofevery
dish. Once again the strong point of the fair, which in 2013 saw over 10 thousand visitors
from26countries,willbeexcellence.

ThusOlioCapitalewillbetheidealbridgeforqualityextravirginoilbetweenEastandWest
thankstothepresenceoftheAmbassadorofJapan,MasaharuKohnoandCurtisCord,director
ofOliveOilTimes,themostimportantEnglishlanguagepublicationspecializedinoliveoilat
an international level. Cord's presence at the fair is of particular importance in light of the
recentallegationsmadebytheNewYorkTimesontheItalianoliveoilindustryinanarticle,
whichwaslaterwithdrawn,containingseveral"errorsandinaccuracies".Giventhedamageto
the image, on an international level, of the entire Italian olive oil industry, Olio Capitale
presentsitselfasaprivilegedarenaforthedefenceofqualityextravirginoliveoilandforthe
hundredsofproducerscommittedtoofferingtheconsumeraproductofexcellence,whichhas
alwaysbeentheemblemofItalianproduce.
Moreover, the catchment area of partners who contribute every year to the success of Olio

The presence of more than 300 exhibitors (a growth of 25% with respect to 2013) from
Abruzzo,Basilicata,Calabria,Campania,EmiliaRomagna,FriuliVeneziaGiulia,Lazio,Liguria,
Marche,Molise,Puglia,Sardegna,Sicilia,Toscana,Umbria,TrentinoandtheVeneto,butalso
fromCroatia,AlbaniaandGreece,providetheopportunitytosampleallthedifferentvarieties
cultivatedinItaly.AcrosssectionofthebestItalianproductsofexcellencewillbepresent.Of
the300producersatthefairagood93willexhibitorganicextravirginoliveoilsand78oils
with PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) or IGP (Protected Geographical Indication)
certifications.
Buyersandtradevisitorsfromallovertheworld
Theaudienceofprofessionaltradevisitorscontinuestoexpandwithmorethanthirtynations
accredited to Olio Capitale 2014, in order to experience Italian excellence first hand. The
significantpresenceofprofessionalsfromalloverEuropeandtheUnitedStateshasthisyear
seentheadditionofbuyersandoilsommeliersfromCanadaandJapan.
High‐levelB2Bmeetingsfortradeprofessionals
Thewinningformulathathasalwaysdistinguishedtheeventhasbeenconfirmed:face‐to‐face
meetings between exhibitors and industry professionals, but also promotion and the
opportunity to sell to enthusiasts who always participate in large numbers and have the
chancetomeetproducers,deepeningtheirknowledgeofthecomplexandamazingworldof
olivegrowing.
TheOlioCapitaleCookingSchoolisback
AmongtheobjectivesofOlioCapitaleisthedesiretoincreasethecultureofgoodandhealthy
eating. Visitors will be assured of this thanks to the collateral events to be held for the
durationoftheeventattheOlioCapitaleSchoolofCookingrunbyEmilioCuk,presidentofthe
AssociationofChefsofTrieste.Asuccessionofthebestchefsfromtoprestaurants–excellent
interpretersofItaliancuisine–willholdcookinglessonsforthepublicusingtheextravirgin
oils exhibited at the event, offering numerous dishes ranging from modern to ancient and
traditional cuisine. The numerous cooking demonstrations programmed will indeed
demonstratethebest,butalsothemostunexpectedusesforextravirginoliveoil,ablazeof
flavoursthanksalsotothecombinationofoilswithvariousregionalspecialities.

The great variety of Olio Capitale is reflected in the wide range of oils available for tasting.
Duringtheeventtherewillbemanytypesoftastings,suchastheonebilaterallyledbyItaly
and Croatia coordinated by Marco Oreggia, during which it will be possible to taste the oils
thatwontheOlioCapitale2013CompetitiontogetherwithCroatianoils.Oliveoilenthusiasts
willappreciatetheOilBarwheretheywillbeabletorelaxanddiscoverthehundredsoflabels
exhibitedatthefair.Atastingpointwillprovidemoreandlessexperiencedvisitorswiththe
opportunity,alldayandeveryday,toparticipateinguidedtastingsoftheoilsonshowthanks
to the explanations of tasters from the Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori Olio di Oliva
(ONAOO,theItalianorganizationofoliveoiltasters).What'smore,itwillbepossibletohave
funtestingyourskillsthankstotheguidedtastings,therebytakingadvantageofthechanceto
learntheartoftastingandbepartofthepopularjurywhichwillhelptoelectthewinningoils

OlioCapitaleconfirmsthelaunchoftheplatformfornewtechnologiesforthemarketingand
promotionofhighqualityextravirginoliveoil.Duringtheexhibitionanewoutstandingtool
willbepresented:theoilthatspeaksandanswersquestions.Atthemeetingorganizedbythe
AssociazioneNazionaleDonnedell'Olio(NationalAssociationofOilWomen)the"TalkingOil"
project, realized by the innovative start up Intoote of Trieste, will be demonstrated.
Innovative technology allows you, through the QR code on the labels, to chat with a
representativewhowillbeabletogiveimmediateanswerstousers'questions.

Thanks to the collaboration between Aries and Confcommercio a co‐marketing activity for
Olio Capitale 2014 which ensures those who make purchases in shops that exhibit the Olio
Capitaleposterofadiscountedentrytickettotheeventandatasteofthewinningoilofthe
OlioCapitale2013Competition.
OlioCapitaleextravirginoilinTrieste'srestaurants
OlioCapitaleinvolvesthewholecityandwill,infact,haveaccesstoTrieste'srestaurants.A
partnership between the Federation of Public Enterprises of Trieste and the Chefs'
AssociationofTriestewillbringtolocalrestaurantsaselectionofoilsfortastingfromthefair,
togetherwithaseriesofeventsandtastingsfocusedonthecombinationofregionalcuisines
andextravirginoliveoil.
TheCommaderiedesCordonsBleusdeFranceforhealthyandgoodqualitycuisine
The Commaderie des Cordons Bleus de France will be present at Olio Capitale 2014 for a
trainingforumontherelationshipbetweengastronomy,qualityproductsandhealthyeating,
thusreaffirmingtheimportanceofextravirginoliveoilinasuperiordiet.ThetermCordon
Bleu, synonymous with haute cuisine since the sixteenth century, gave the name to the
CommanderiedesCordonsBleusdeFrance,establishedin1949andnowpresentthroughout
theworld.TheobjectiveofCordonsBleusisthediffusionofthecultureofcookingthroughthe
quest for excellence in traditional and innovative approaches based on the promotion of
qualityproductsandtheprofessionalismofthoseemployedinthefield.
ArecordeditionforthetwentiethanniversaryoftheAssociazioneCittàdell’Olio
ForthenationalassociationCittàdell’Oliothe2014editionofOlioCapitalewillbeanedition
dedicated to wide participation. In fact, the number of members of the association, who
represent the territories of production of extra virgin olive oil participating at the fair, is
growing.
In addition, a rich programme of collateral events co‐organized by the national association
Città dell’Olio together with ARIES is foreseen, consisting of conferences, oil tasting courses
forchildren,eveningswithathemeinthecity'srestaurants,showcookingandtastings.Olio
Capitale2014isalsothefirststageoftheGiroliod'Italia2014,thetwentyyeareditionwhose
moment of glory will be the conference "Territory, health and nutrition: opportunities for
extravirginoliveoil",programmedforSaturday8Marchat11amintheConferenceHallof
theOlioCapitalefairwiththelocalauthoritiesandspeakersofinternationalrenownpresent;
thebestwaytogetthecelebrationsforthetwentyyearsofcommitmenttotheenhancement
ofextravirginoliveoilandthepromotionoftheassociation'soliveoilheritageofftoastartin
Trieste.ThefollowingeventsareprogrammedfortheGiroliodayinTrieste:adiscussionon
the importance of packaging and innovative solutions for extra virgin olive oil business
strategies,aguidedtastingbyONAOOtasters,aminicourseontastingmediumfruityoilsand
asessionofthecookingschoolwithEmilioCuk,incollaborationwiththeNationalFederation
ofChefs,inspiredbytypicaldishesofItalianregionalcuisines.
Importantinternationalpartnerships
Olio Capitale will therefore be the reference point for quality oil worldwide, as is
demonstrated by the media partnership with Olive Oil Times and the collaboration with
ItalianOliveOilDay,animportantinitiativewhollydedicatedtooliveoiltobeheldinTokyo
on17May2014.AneventthatwillpromoteOlioCapitaleonthedynamicmarketoftheFar
East,whichisincreasinglyconsciousofthequalityandthehealth‐givingpropertiesofextra
virgin olive oil. However, it is from Brazil that the appointment of the first Olio Capitale
Ambassadors comes, who will promote quality Italian extra virgin olive oil through the
networkofItalianrestaurantsintheworld,startinginSouthAmerica.
Lastly, in addition to enjoying the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural
PoliciesOlioCapitaleboastsimportantsponsorshipssuchasthatofEasysnapandprestigious
partnerships.TogetherwithOlioCapitalethenationalassociationCittàdell’Olioalsoreturns
thisyear,withitsmembersfromalloverItalywhohavebelievedintheoriginalandwinning
formatoftheeventeversincethefirstedition.

taking part. Of these 15 will be selected by a panel of tasters of the Trieste Chamber of
