Definition of Human Communication
The accurate transfer of an idea (message) from one person (sender) to another person
(receiver).
The message can be verbal and/or nonverbal.
Human Communication can be diagrammed as:
Sender------------Message------------Receiver
Definition of Language
There are 5 elements in the definition of language. To have a true language, all 5
elements must be present.
Language:
1] is a code
2] represents ideas about our world
3] uses a conventional system of rules
4] is arbitrary
5] is used for communication
Components of Language
1] Phonology: Sounds of the language
2] Semantics: Word meaning
3] Syntax: Word order or word combinations
4] Morphology: Word endings
5] Pragmatics: Language in context
