Year 10 Physics - How things work ELECTIVE Science Northern Bay College invites applications from students with a keen interest in obtaining their VCE or VET. Year 10 Subject Selection: COURSE OVERVIEW In this unit, students will explore the concepts of Physics, using a hands on approach where they will be using as many different materials and scientific equipment. The Physics in this unit will explain the physical world around us and how everyday things work. Students will choose one elective from each of the learning areas: In this unit students will explore concepts of: Arts, Technology, and Health & Road Science – the motion of cars, Physical Education. aircraft and other travelling machines UNIT CODE: SPE Lights and Optics – exploring light using mirrors, lenses, telescopes and lasers Electric Circuits – discovering the PATHWAYS into Year 11 shocking truth about static • VCE Physics (1 & 2) electricity, building circuits, • VCE Chemistry (1 & 2) household electricity and • VCE Biology (1 & 2) electromagnetism. • VCE Psychology (1 & 2) Sound and Acoustics – discovering how musical instruments, music recording and playback and the human ear work. Astronomy – looking at the night sky ENROLMENT planets and the solar system, stars There are no pre-requisites for and galaxies. entry Nuclear Energy and Radioactivity – looking at the awesome power of COST $30 atoms, isotopes, nuclear energy, Geiger counters and medical radiation. In addition to the core subject areas, Year 10 students will complete one Central Study comprising of 2 electives from one learning area during Semester 2 and another three Electives over the two semesters.
