Read Chapter 32. As you do so, take notes on the following topics on a separate piece of notebook paper. You
will have to study these for tests, so do not just “answer” the topic questions below- write out the info in an
outline format that contains the detail needed to understand what the topic is and what it means. Leave space
between each topic so you can add to the notes during in-class lectures. USE COMPLETE SENTENCES

Explain how bone remodeling and repair works. Describe the condition called osteoporosis.
What is the role of joints?
List and describe the different joint categories. Include locations at which they may be found on the
human body.

1. List and describe the principal types of muscle tissue including their functions. Review the pictures on
page 929.
2. Describe the structure of muscle fibers. Be very detailed. Review the picture on page 930.
3. Explain how the sliding filament model works. Review the picture on page 931.
4. Give a detailed explanation about how muscle contraction is controlled. Include information about:
a. The neuromuscular junction
b. Acetylcholine and the synapse
c. Calcium ion transport
5. Describe how muscles and bones interact to create movement.
Ch. 32.3- Skin, The Integumentary System
1. What are the principal functions of the integumentary system?
2. What are the general structures of the integumentary system
3. Describe, in detail, the two main layers of the skin: (Review figure 32-12 on page 936)
a. The epidermis
b. The dermis
4. Describe hair and nails: include structure, function, and location (Review figure 32-13 on page 936)
5. Discuss skin problems including acne, hives, and skin cancer. List causes and symptoms.
