3C’s Monday Memo October 19, 2015 . Math: We will continue the addition/subtraction unit. This week we will work on Subtraction and how it relates to addition for checking your answer. Your childe should have brought home the SOL math workbook. We reuse them every year so please do not let them wrote in them. Use them for test review questions and sometimes I may assign pages for homework and the answers will go in the math notebook. Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week. Science: The Matter Unit will flow into the water cycle unit this week. The Matter Unit/Water Cycle Test will be on Tuesday, October 23th. The study guide and notes are glued in the notebook. I will be sending home their notebooks to review notes nightly. Reading: This week’s focus will continue to be understanding fiction and identifying character traits to build comprehension when meeting in guided reading groups. In addition, we will have Scholastic News and Readers’ Theater for the water cycle. Most students are making great progress on their reading logs. Please have them continue filling in if they have reached 8 books. Four students have already completed the entire log! Thanks for your help at home. Word Study This week is week two with choice on Tuesday and practice test on Thursday. Please encourage your child to choose something new. If you have time, sorting nightly helps students that need extra practice. Writer’s Workshop: We will be working on our Spooky House stories that we began a couple of weeks ago. It will be a nice break from the hard work they put forth on the personal narrative pieces. I am so proud of each student’s work! Using I and me correctly has been a big focus for us as a class. : ) Their cursive is looking great too! Star Students: Cayden & Tatem!!!! We look forward to them sharing their posters and any extra pictures of favorite memories they would like to share. Announcements: On Friday, the students may bring a board game to play for our current Mr. Potato Head reward. The Lowes Island PTO and SCA are teaming up to collect canned goods for LINK and shelf stable milk and protein items for the Backpack Buddy Program. Fundraising will begin October 19th and end October 30th. Please have your child bring in your families donation to the boxes in the front of the school. Thank you for your donation! On October 21st we are asking Lowes Island students and families to wear ORANGE to promote Unity Day! Unity Day is about making a safe and supportive school and community. Lowes Island is united against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. One of the ways I love to get to know my students is by watching what they do outside of school. If I can work it into my schedule, I would like to come to your child’s game, recital, etc. If you send me the schedule for the event, I will try to work it into mine. Thanks for working with me to make sure the students have nutritional snacks. Thanks for signing the planner daily and helping with homework as well! If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning. Have a great week!
