Job Title (code): IT System Manager I (9821) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT System Manager I classification install, manage, and diagnose server, applications, or advanced data communications/voice communications equipment and software. They work under the close supervision of a manager in the performance of their duties, which typically are for a limited number and complexit Essential Functions Function 1: Supervise and manage job contractors to ensure that wiring standards and standard products are implemented during remodeling activities, and when satisfying customer requests for physical network modifications. 30 % Time Function 2: Develop project scope and purchasing documents for network expansion projects managed under job contracts. Determine the capability to perform work with existing resources based on scope, schedule, and cost considerations. 30 % Time Function 3: Establish requirements for network resources specifically in support of research initiatives working with investigators to develop network requirements, funding, and integration. 20 % Time Function 4: Prepare and analyze statistics on network use and availability. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and one year of related computing systems management work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required as appropriate to the technical field: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Basic knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install and configure server hardware and software including Operating Systems and associated configurations. Ability to install and configure advance data communications or telecommunications hardware and software. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions. Preferred Qualifications: Must be experienced in local or wide area network work. Documented formal education is desired with a minimum of 60 credit hours with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field of study, and seven or more years of applicable experience. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
