Job Title (code): IT System Manager III (9823) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT System Manager III classification install, manage, and diagnose server, applications, or advanced data communications/voice communications equipment and software. They generally work independently in the performance of their duties, which typically are for a significant number and complexity of server Essential Functions Function 1: Forecast, design, and estimate costs for network expansion into major new construction using preliminary building architectural drawings, network renderings, programming and logical network diagrams. 20 % Time Function 2: Integrate network requirements for expansion with existing standards, protocols, and network management tools and practices. 20 % Time Function 3: Conduct development for systems that provide security administration, authentication, virtual private networks, intrusion prevention, load balancing, wireless control, switching, routing, and access. 20 % Time Function 4: Establish disaster avoidance and recovery methods and practices using replication and redundancy, alternative routing, power protection, and hot standby equipment inventories. 20 % Time Function 5: Develop policies and procedures to protect infrastructure including hub room space, rack layouts, tunnel pathways underground facilities, hand holes from intrusion, and misuse. 20 % Time Function 6: % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other related functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and five years of progressively responsible computer systems management and analysis experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required as appropriate to the technical field: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Extensive knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install, integrate, and configure complex server hardware and software including Operating Systems and associated configurations. Ability to install, integrate, and configure advance data communications or telecommunications hardware and software. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Strong skill in analyzing and solving complex computing problems. Ability to coordinate a work team and train lower level analysts for specific tasks or assignments. Preferred Qualifications: Must be experienced in local or wide area network work. Documented formal education is desired with a minimum of 60 credit hours with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field of study, and seven or more years of applicable experience. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
