Job Title (code): IT System Manager III (9823) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT System Manager III classification install, manage, and diagnose server, applications, or advanced data communications/voice communications equipment and software. They generally work independently in the performance of their duties, which typically are for a significant number and complexity of server Essential Functions Function 1: Follow change management processes to execute the scheduling, technical direction, future planning, and application/database support for IT security applications. 10 % Time Function 2: Follow project management processes to execute the proper design, development, support, and implementation of IT security applications 15 % Time Function 3: Interact with the user community and the Information Security Office to gather and document business requirements, conduct process analysis, and draft conceptual design. Create technical specifications and detailed software design documentation based on IT security business requirements. 40 % Time Function 4: Work with users and other IT members on a routine basis to troubleshoot reported problems pertaining to application software. Identify the cause, design or develop an approach for resolution. Upon approval, implement the correction/customize software to meet user specific needs. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and five years of progressively responsible computer systems management and analysis experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required as appropriate to the technical field: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Extensive knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install, integrate, and configure complex server hardware and software including Operating Systems and associated configurations. Ability to install, integrate, and configure advance data communications or telecommunications hardware and software. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Strong skill in analyzing and solving complex computing problems. Ability to coordinate a work team and train lower level analysts for specific tasks or assignments. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Four years of experience in systems programming, with at least three years in software related to that in use by the installation, and one year in supervisory capacity.
