Job Title (code): IT Specialist II (9805) Purpose Purpose: The IT Specialist II classification install and support computing or basic data communications/ telecommunications equipment and software and perform diagnostics of problems with that hardware and software. Persons in ITS II positions work under the supervision of a technical manager and are responsible for a moderate Essential Functions Function 1: Work with network customers to address operational issues. Monitor remote locations and communicate with customers to identify problems, implement solutions, and follow-up with results. 30 % Time Function 2: Test electrical properties, distance, continuity and labeling for new and modified network terminations and drops. 20 % Time Function 3: Install wireless access points, hub room racks and network devices in compliance with specifications, network standards, and work safety procedures. 30 % Time Function 4: Assist with inventory storage and maintenance, shipping, hub room maintenance, and facilities maintenance. 20 % Time Function 5: % Time Function 6: % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other related functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Associates Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install and configure desktop computer hardware and software. Ability to install and configure basic data communications and or telecommunications hardware with some supervision with little supervision. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Preferred Qualifications: Must be experienced in local or wide area network work. Documented formal education is desired with a minimum of 30 credit hours with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field of study, and four or more years of applicable experience. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
