MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: MEDIA SERVICES AIDE BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Instructional Technology/Media Services Coordinator, provide basic preventive maintenance on media/Technology Enhanced Classroom (TEC) equipment, and provide basic videotaping services. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Receive, assemble, and install media/TEC equipment. (E) 2. Take reservations for equipment, complete equipment slips and check out equipment to faculty and staff; create and maintain a database of requests, delivery times, and pickup times on a computer. Drive electric cart on campus to deliver, set up and pick up equipment. (E) 3. Answer telephones and direct callers as necessary. 4. Troubleshoot equipment problems in classrooms and make minor repairs on all media and TEC equipment. (E) 5. Provide routine information on needed audio-visual materials and equipment. 6. Provide media assistance at special events. (E) 7. Conduct one-on-one training sessions for faculty and staff on using media/TEC equipment, including data projectors and computers for use with those projectors. 8. Maintain an inventory database for media/TEC equipment as required. 9. Provide basic preventive maintenance on district media and TEC hardware; coordinate laptop and TEC computer hardware repairs with Instructional Technology Specialists as needed. (E) 10. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on media/TEC equipment. (E) 11. Perform other duties as required. Minor repair procedures on a wide variety of technical equipment. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Filing, recordkeeping techniques and computer database use. Operate and trouble-shoot audio-visual and other technical equipment. Process incoming audio-visual materials and equipment. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Work independently with little direction. Lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and closely related experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver license, District-approved DMV driving record. WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Not applicable -- no assigned supervisory responsibilities. CONTACTS: Instructors, students, department personnel, coworkers. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical labor including pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, bending and/or stooping; lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to a maximum of 35 pounds; ability to work at computer, including repetitive use of computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices; ability to travel to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business. WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor environments. Subject to frequent interruptions by individuals in person or by telephone, intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion. May work at any district location or authorized facility during day and/or evening hours with occasional evenings, and/or weekends on an as-needed basis. Occasional local travel may be requested.
