College Leadership Team Minutes August 14, 2013 Present – Larry Daniel, Marsha Lupi, Claribel Torres, Linda Sciarratta, John Kemppainen, Cathy O’Farrell, Jennifer Kane, Karen Patterson, John Venn, Jeff Cornett, Rick Chant Call to Order – The meeting was called to order at 9:30 am. Approval of Minutes – The minutes were approved as submitted. Announcements – Scholarship Reports - Dr. Lupi removed items from some of the reports if the item was not in a peer review journal or if it was work presented at a local public school rather than a professional conference. Graduate Student PAF processing – All graduate student PAF’s need to be sent to the graduate school for processing. Graduate students need to be enrolled in 9 credits unless they are doctoral students; doctoral students need to be enrolled in 6 credits. Dr. O’Farrell shared that 106 interns will be starting this fall 2013 semester. Dr. O’Farrell also shared how field will be exploring collaboration possibilities with UNF, OneJax, and the Aspen Institute about piloting with the PDS interns the opportunity to provide them more context and understanding of the children they are responsible for in the classroom. Dr. Mary Rose, through the Center for Urban Education and Policy, will shortly be sending information to faculty regarding this initiative. More to come. As part of the beginning teacher program in Duval county, all new teachers are required to do a web based portfolio. Dr. O’Farrell shared that COEHS’ web based portfolios have provided COEHS students an opportunity to be ahead of the curve as beginning teachers. Dr. Kemppainen shared with the CLT that after his recent discussion with Pat Hanford, a paragraph informing new graduate students of COEHS fellowships, with web page link and directions, will be included in the new student letter that will be sent out by the advising office. This is in conjunction to the agenda topic discussed at the July 31 CLT meeting. Dr. Kemppainen commented that advising denied 130+ applications at the end of July because they were missing the general knowledge test. Applications were denied after several attempts to inform the student to take the gk test. Discussion of Clinical and Field Experiences – Jeff Cornett and Rick Chant The CLT reviewed the Clinical Supervision Flow Chart distributed by Jeff Cornett and the Restructuring Field Experiences proposed outline distributed by Rick Chant. This discussion will be revisited next meeting, August 28, 2013. Steps between now and the next CLT meeting - Continue these conversations with faculty. Dr. Daniel will generate an additional list of questions to send out to the CLT members that are at today’s CLT meeting. Dr. Daniel will have individual conversations with several CLT members to have some clarity and make sure everyone’s on the same page. FDOE review in November – L.D. and C.T. Dr. Daniel and Dr. Torres updated the CLT on the FDOE review. Dr. Torres needs matrices and all outstanding documents by September 6. With a short turn around, Dr. Torres asks Chairs and Program Leaders to respond back in a timely manner once departments receive their narratives. Update on Search Plans By mid-September searches need to be approved, posted and active on Oasys before positions can be posted to the Chronicle of Higher Education. Updates on Upcoming Events Save the Date: September 11 Barnett Berry and district members will be on campus. Dr. Daniel will find out more detail and encourage faculty to attend. This will be in regards to Teacher Leadership. 1 Dr. Cornett and Dr. Daniel worked up a proposal for a Teacher Leader Cohort. More to come in the near future. Fall 2013 Course Enrollment Discussion The Chairs and Dr. Kemppainen reviewed the course enrollments for the fall 2013 semester. Meeting adjourned at 11:45am 2
