College Leadership Team August 26, 2015 Present – Jeff Cornett, Jennifer Kane, John Kemppainen, Chris Janson, Marsha Lupi, Karen Patterson, Megan Possinger, John Venn; Absent: Cathy O’Farrell and Dan Dinsmore Call to order – The meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. Minutes- The minutes of July 29, were approved Update on agenda items from last meeting of July 29th. In Dr. O’Farrell’s absence, Dr. Lupi shared that Dr. O’Farrell hired two new Resident Clinical Faculty – Darcey Gray (Lake Shore Middle School) and Dwayne Kohn (Kings Trail Elementary). Dr. Lupi hired Amanda Laukitis to assist Dr. Possinger with accreditation, assist with the tasks associated with the Military Workshops, assist with international initiatives in the dean’s office and assist in development for COEHS faculty who may be awarded TLO’s. Need to add a future agenda item to discuss the governance of the new Resident Clinical Faculty. Announcements Dr. Kemppainen announced that his first meeting of the teacher’s academy at ST. Augustine High School went well. Dual enrollment policies have been changed to 6th grade and higher. Dr. Kane shared information about the work Dr. Dinsmore is leading at the Ronald McDonald House with the help of Dr. Katrina Hall, Dr. Gigi David, and Dr. Lena Shaqareq. Dr. Christian Winterbottom will also be involved. They are starting a goup: Advocates for Children and Adolescents. These community initiatives will be advertised via flyers distributed in the classrooms. Dr. Lupi gave an update on Dr. Eastham’s medical condition and shared that Nick was feeling better. Dr. Janson shared Dr. Matt Ohlson’s meeting with N.E. Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC). Dr. Ohlson will facilitate leadership training in rural communities by teaching two classes (taught in the context of the rural community) as early as summer 2016. The Interpreting program will be having a site visit for accreditation in the near future. The department received the confirming email; the dates of the site visit are forthcoming. FTCE Support and policies – MSP, JJK, JV, MHL The CLT discussed students taking the GK test before entering internship starting fall 2017/2018. This current fall semester, Dr. O’Farrell will be advising students to get ready for this test and to schedule their testing dates. Dr. Possinger discussed the testing schedule and will formulate variable proposals/ideas to help COEHS students with test taking strategies. A meeting will be scheduled after faculty assembly meets and votes on FTCE policies. Faculty Assembly meets on September 4th. Dr. Kane will lead the charge in having people convene in different areas of expertise to build an infrastructure to help students with test taking strategies. Dr. Kemppainen reminded the CLT that advising has 40 tutorials to target students that have failed the test. Meet your Major Event/Ice Cream Social (Monday, August 31 st) – JPK, JJK August 31st. 10:00am – 2:00pm. Dr. Kemppainen shared that emails have been sent to all “meet your major/mentors” and all sophomores in transition. Department By-Laws (guidelines) MHL, JJK What is the time-line set by Academic Affairs? When do you want to use the new guidelines for annual evaluation and promotion and tenure? Departments work on your guidelines for the dean’s office to review. Dean’s Search – MHL Dr. Pam Chally will be in charge of the Dean’s Search. Committee representatives will consist of one USPA employee, one A&P employee, and two faculty representatives from each department. Danny Berenberg will continue his role representing the DEAC. The Executive Committee discussed who would be nominated for Executive Committee President and voted on during Faculty Assembly, September 4th. Other Search Committee News – MHL CELT Chair – Co Chairs are Dr. Lunetta Williams and Dr. Chris Janson. Deirdre Meehan, Dean’s Office support staff with help from Jenny Neidhardt, CELT Office Manager. LSCSM Doctoral Position – Dr. Newton Jackson, Search Committee Chair. Deirdre Meehan, Dean’s Office support staff with help from LSCSM Office Assistant, Michele Verkerk. Social Studies Position – Dr. Nile Stanley, Search Committee Chair. Tiffany King, Dean’s Office support staff with help from Jenny Neidhardt, CELT Office Manager. Dr. Abdullah is conducting a pilot project on “How to Increase Diversity in Search Pools” COEHS Dean’s Search and COEHS CELT chair will be participating in this pilot. The best way to invest money in the bigger ads is to target the Chronicle on the website instead of the Chronicle on paper. CUEP – MHL The CLT discussed the purpose, funding considerations, and the Center’s future involving faculty and community members. Secondary Education CIP Codes – MHL The BOG has recommended to move Science secondary education programs to CIP Code 13.1205. The CLT suggested to also move Math to CIP Code 13.1205. Fall Enrollment – MHL The group compared enrollment numbers from last fall to this current fall. Discuss future scheduling during the next CLT meeting. Meeting adjourned at 11:20.
