Scheib, Geri A. Shapiro, Martha Soto, June Wada, Gwen I. Walker and Debby Wong. Present: Yolanda Ramil, Gerald Scheib, Lorraine Manoogian, Dorothy Mundt, Pat Flood, Geri Shapiro, Tricia Johnson, June Wada, John J. Morales, Victor Renolds. Subject: Minutes of the Feb. 19, 2004 WEC Meeting. Yolanda Ramil, Chair of the WEC called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m. The Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed. Yolanda noted she saw no statements that needed correction. The motion was made by Patricia Flood, and seconded by Dorothy Mundt to accept the minutes, as it was prepared. Yolanda indicated that she wishes to resign from the position of Chair of the WEC this June 2004. She has held that position for six years. OLD BUSINESS TOPICS: The double door hardware is still not working well at the north end of the faculty office area. A number of suggestions were offered to remedy the situation. The problem causes a banging closing noise and the door does not click into place each time it is opened and shut (which is frequent). Victor Renolds will look into this mechanical problem. 1 NEW BUSINESS REPORTED FROM THE FLOOR: Natural Sciences Chair, Maria Fenyes, is requesting a computer be delivered to Cubicle No. 21 and connected so that assigned adjunct faculty will have an office space to meet with their students, receive their cc-mail messages and hold office hours on a regular basis. This I an urgent need. Lorraine Manoogian indicated that two other part-time faculty spaces do not have computers, nor have they been assigned to departments. These are No. 39 and No. 54. It is imperative that adjunct have a place to meet with students, engage in record keeping and hold their office hours in a professional atmosphere. A number of committee members reported that there has been no Evening College Administrator on campus for adjunct faculty to leave evening school grade sheets, exclusion rosters and other such records. This is especially the case when Admissions and Records is also not available at their critical last few minutes before the 7:00 P.M. closing time. Objective: To help adjunct faculty do their job while they are on duty. Julius Walker has been notified that Women's Restrooms have no soap in the dispensers. Women do not want to use bar soap as a substitute. Custodians need to check such dispensers on a daily basis. The continuing need to turn on lights in darkening corridors and Lobby areas of the Instructional Center as it gets dark. Although the lighting conditions are improving, when it is cloudy, it still gets dark by 5:30 p.m. The usual person assigned to this task is away on vacation. One solution is to make a reminder call to custodians on duty to turn the lights on when it gets dark in the buildings. Gerald Scheib requested clarification about the CSB having to postpone the installation of high tech equipment due to lack of funds. Victor Renolds reported: It is not a lack of funds, but a problem with the installation design. Actually three classrooms are finished. Victor reported this is continuing project. He will keep WEC up to date on which rooms are finished and which rooms are next etc. the CSB. 2 Another issue was regarding the rugs and carpeting project for the Instructional Center Faculty Offices. Victor reminded the committee that an inventory of where improvements are needed is a campus wide concern. Evaluation of where improvements are needed is underway. Margarita Padilla submitted the need to have No. Smoking Signs placed at either end of Hallways in the CSB. Victor explained that "No Smoking Signs Within 20 feet of Buildings" is the plan in order to eliminate indoor smoking all together. Designated smoking areas hope to be selected. Yolanda explained that Rooms in Campus Center (in particular Room 3) are too cold during winter months. People attending Evening College must attend class with their coats on. It is still too cold. Some adjustment must be made to regulate the temperature in individual rooms in the Campus Center. Patricia Flood reported air-conditioning problems in the 2021 Lab. facility. In this room the computers give off a lot of heat. The tall standing fans are no longer available and the air conditioning does not cool the air temperature enough. The Meeting was adjourned at l:33 P.M. Respectfully submitted Lorraine Manoogian The next meeting will be held Thursday, March 12, 2004, 1:00 P.M. 3
