Walker, Debby Wong, Victor Reynolds, Julius Walker, and William Stan Dease. Present: Yolanda Ramil, Maria Fenyes, June Wada, Lorraine Manoogian, John Morales, Gerald Scheib, Tricia Johnson, Dorothy Mundt, Debby Wong, David Pardess, Geri Shapiro, Patricia Flood, and Stan Dease. Chair Yolanda Ramil convened the meeting at 1:07 p.m. The motion to accept the March 11th, 2004 minutes was recommended by Yolanda. The motion was seconded. The motion passed unanimously by those present. New Business: Yolanda reported to the committee that office cubicle #3 of Gary Prostak has been tampered with by unknown intruders. This type of disturbance is increasing in frequency and present security measures are not sufficient to deter these events. Yolanda Ramil reported that her discussion with Dr. Barerra regarding the reorganization of the present cubicle system can be corrected at some future date when full time faculty will have “real” offices. At that time faculty offices can be designed to accommodate two instructors and function as secure, locked and private offices. David Pardess's comment: Office spaces as laid out are substandard. Maria Fenyes indicated that all faculty cannot be accommodated in semiprivate office spaces in the present faculty office area.. Maria added that we are the only college in the district with cubicles as faculty office spaces. Proposition A should include plans for adequate faculty offices in each building or designate one building for the exclusive use of private faculty offices. Dorothy Mundt stated that office spaces for classified have the same problems. 1 Yolanda Ramil reported the bathrooms in the Campus Center basement are not being cleaned. Julius Walker is the person to contact about this situation. AFT Chair Maria Fenyes brought a detailed motion to the WEC meeting requesting that .2 FTE reassigned time be given to the WEC chair elect for the 2 year term of office starting in the Fall, 2004 Semester. In addition, if the individual selected for this position would receive .2 FTE reassigned time approved by the College President, ARTICLE 9.DOC 04/24/4 2:48PM, he/she would expand responsibilities to the WEC. Debby Wong seconded the motion. The attachments accompanying these minutes explain why this action is necessary and essential. Maria specified this request is urgent. Gerald Scheib announced that El Carizo Park is on a "Closure List" by the City of Los Angeles due to budget shortfalls. This news may be useful to resolving any community issues about releasing lands to Los Angeles Mission College for its expansion plans. Old Business: Maria Fenyes reminded the committee that the Instructional Center Alcoves Upstairs are a perfect study/tutoring area for students and instructors. The necessary tables and chairs have repeatedly been brought into this area, but Plant Facilities does not switch on the lights at night. Geri Shapiro asked about the latest news regarding new carpets for the Instructional Center. Yolanda explained that this improvement be done only when instructional activities are over. The placement of No Smoking signs has started. No Smoking Signs have been posted at the Book Store, Administrative Services and Business Office. Maria Fenyes stated that one (1) computer is needed in Cubicle #21 to be shared by adjunct faculty in Natural Sciences Department. It is necessary to update the computer in Cubicle #29 (also Natural Sciences): RAMS should be increased due to insufficient memory. Cubicle #20 needs a computer for the Business and Law Department. The private office of Mari Rettke needs a computer. WEC submitted Key requests for restrooms to Maggie La Bash. The request is being processed. 2 Tricia Johnson and Lorraine Manoogian noted that occasionally people come into the faculty office area that are neither classified, faculty or students such as loiterers, book buyers, and publisher reps. Deputy Wm. "Stan" Dease attended the WEC meeting to bring attention to recommendations developed by the Campus Safety and Security Task Force to improve safety and security on campus. The recommendations include central surveillance system, keyless system for buildings and rooms, develop a more efficient and brighter lighting system in outdoor areas and stair wells, manage office space security by changing the heights of partition walls, and add a 4' wrought iron fence on the perimeter of the campus with a hedge of scrubs 4' deep that would control access into the campus grounds. The meeting adjourned at 2:04 p.m. The next meeting of the WEC is scheduled on May 13, 2004 (the second Thursday.) Submitted by Lorraine Manoogian 3
