Meeting was called to order by Richard Rains at 2:10 p.m.
Minutes were approved conditionally: moved by Louise Barbato, seconded by David
Pardess, unanimous approval
Conditions: a)Margarita Padilla pointed out that in the Minutes of 2/25/10, under Updates,
Walter Bortman asked WEC members to check LED lights in CSB 116. This must be a typographical error, since there is no room 116. Pending email response from Wally b)Add name of recorder.
(Note: changes were made to the February minutes on 4/8/10 – R.R.)
Unfinished Business: a. At the February meeting it was decided to invite a Sheriff to the March meeting to discuss the apparent decrease in numbers of cadets on campus, which had been mentioned as a concern by Gerald Scheib in February. No Sheriff was present, however at this month’s meeting. b. Louise pointed out that Vicki Odino needs an office. Richard was commissioned to follow up on this. We need some kind of timeline or some kind of decision to allow
Vickie to start moving in immediately, in order to have time to settle in. Let Vicki know. c. Gloria Daims: the issue of privacy in the restroom in CCDS is not resolved. The door was seen unlocked recently, without a sign or any indication of whether the roof was occupied. Only facilities people can open door. We need to encourage workers to be consistent with policy to put a sign up and lock the door, as agreed upon at the February meeting (see minutes).
Lorraine suggests that for all restroom cleaning activity, a sign should be put up with times the room will be unusable.
New business:
Louise made a motion: Given that faculty have difficulty finding parking on first floor of the parking structure, the following motion was passed: The Work Environment
Committee recommends that first-floor parking in the parking structure be reserved to faculty and staff only. Student workers and construction workers should be issued different colored passes for parking on a floor other than the first floor. Guests should have designated parking on the fourth floor.
This motion will be presented to Sheriffs for their agreement and approval and then presented to College Council for immediate implementation.
After approval email should be sent to all faculty and staff informing them of the policy
The motion was passed unanimously.
Lorraine Manoogian stated a problem: Two Gateway bungalow air conditioners are directly outside the window of room I 1013, which causes extreme noise during class time. This noise seriously affects learning environment. A motion was made to recommend an investigation to find a solution to this problem. The motion was Made by
Lorraine and seconded by Louise and passed unanimously.
Yolanda Ramil stated a problem: there is no faculty rest room in the CSB building and the student rest room is very dirty. A motion was made to explore the possibility of adding a faculty restroom, for example in the location of the former conference room for
Child Development. The motion was seconded by David and passed unanimously.
Gloria stated that repeated requests have not been responded to for permanent nameplate signs outside the doors of the offices of Gloria Daims and Lilamani De Silva. The work request number is 9080154. Email messages in January and February produced no results. Richard was commissioned to inquire to facilities about a timeline for the request. This will be checked at the next WEC meeting.
Next WEC meeting: April 22 2010
David moved to adjourn the meeting. Louise seconded. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
