WEC MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, September 27, 2007

Present: Richard Rains, Gary Prostak, Victor Renolds, Walter Bortman,
Lisa Thornley, Margarita Padilla, Geri Shapiro, Lorraine Manoogian,
Guests: Dr. Alma Johnson – Hawkins, Marcella Lozano.
1.
Richard Rains called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m.
2. Approval of 05-24-07 minutes.
Moved by Gary Prostak and seconded by Lisa Thornley that the minutes of the 05-24-07 meeting minutes be approved as written.
Motion was approved unanimously.
3. Temporary Recorded designated by Chair.
It was noted that Cecilia Chan is no longer available to be the
WEC recorder, due to new employment at another college. Lorraine
Manoogian agreed to act as interim recorder for this meeting.
4. Unfinished Business.
No – Smoking Signs on Campus. The No-Smoking Policy is hard to enforce. This is a non-smoking campus. Victor Renolds indicated the need to reevaluate where signs should be located. Richard Rains requested permission to design some signs to deter smoking near entrance of buildings. Victor agreed to have Richard submit suitable signs for approval by Plant Facilities.
5.
New Business.
Specific Office Allocations.
Victor Renolds reported that the office space occupied by Mari Rettke is now assigned and being reconfigured for occupancy of the new
Chair of Professional Studies Department, Dr. Eloise Cantrell.
Sandy Lampert’s office in the CSB has officially been approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs for occupancy by Dr. Robert
Smazenka, chair of Mathematics Dept.

Maria Fenyes’ former office has been approved for occupancy by Said
Pazarindeh, Physical Sciences Chair;
Mike Reynolds, new chair of the Life Sciences Dept. occupies an office located on the second floor in the Instructional Building within the Life Sciences Complex.
It was noted that Debra Paulsen requires an occasional private space for lactation purposes. It was agreed that the faculty lounge in the
CSB faculty office area would be suitable for this.
Gary Prostak made a motion that was seconded by Walter Bortman to assign Kelly Enos Office Cubicle No. 22. Office Space No. 22 was vacated by Said Pazirandeh. Rudy Garcia is assigned Office Cubicle
No 31, previously occupied by Eloise Cantrell. The motion was voted and passed unanimously.
7. General Office Allocation Policy.
The draft of a new Office Allocation Policy was presented for consideration by Gary Prostak and Richard Rains. Certain changes in wording were discussed.
It was moved by Gary Prostak and seconded to approve the Office
Allocation Policy with modifications. The motion passed.
8. Office Clutter
Gary Prostak submitted his request for a Friendly Reminder that faculty office spaces be cleared of accumulated items on top of file cabinets.
WEC chair Richard Rains agreed to send a friendly communication to faculty on this issue.
9. Accessibility of Admissions Lobby
Dorothy Mundt, in behalf of Marcella Lozano, submitted a Work
Environment Request regarding the need to install automatic doors on all of the doors to the Admissions Lobby and repair the holes in sidewalks. Victor Renolds indicated that the door issue is already being investigated by Facilities.

Victor Renolds noted that, in the mean time, the North Atrium of the
Instructional Building has automatic doors located on the left hand side of the entrance wall. Once inside the Atrium, the hallways, corridors, and doorways are wide enough and open to allow access to the Admissions and Records Lobby. (Signage and directions are also helpful to those in wheelchairs).
10. Room Change Request
A request was submitted by Joe Ramirez, VP of Student Services, to move Afri Walker from the lower floor of the Campus Center to
Room 1048 in the Counseling Department. The request was tabled until the next WEC meeting, in order to give the Committee time for studying the office areas and personnel involved.
Next Meeting Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in CC 6.
