Managerial Finance
Prerequisites
Entry level business core, MTH 1112
Description
Analysis, planning and control of the key financial decisions of the firm
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Identify the primary goal of the firm, and explain how incentive conflicts might arise
between the various agents and stakeholders of the firm.
2. Identify the different types of financial markets, and explain how market forces impact the
decision making of the firm.
3. Utilize key financial statements and ratios and use them to evaluate performance and to
formulate financial strategy.
4. Evaluate risk and explain the relationship between risk and return.
5. Calculate asset values, including annuities, perpetuities, stocks and bonds, based on the
concept of the time value of money.
6. Evaluate capital budgeting prospects.
7. Understand the implications of multinational financial management.
Purpose
To provide an introduction to the methodology of managerial finance and to provide a basis for
making the key financial decisions of the firm.
