Adaptive Sports
a. Lauren has been in conversation with the City of Flagstaff and NAU’s Rec Services
about the possibility of bringing sled hockey to Flagstaff.
b. Jamie commented that sled hockey is a good adaptive sport to bring because it
already has rules laid out about able bodied people playing.
c. Rec Services is very interested
d. It was suggested to that we should investigate the availability of accessible hotel
rooms to accommodate tournaments, etc.
i. Work with the city, reach out to the city’s commission
Leadership Award
a. Ballot distributed via NAU Select Survey
b. Survey needs to be completed by March 25th.
c. We have 5 nominees and will give out 4 awards.
d. We need to pick out a less expensive award this year. Our current award puts us
over budget.
i. Suggested to use a smaller version of our current award.
Diversity Awards Banquet
a. April 27, High Country Conference Center, 5:30
b. There will not be a head table this year, possibility of a key note speaker
c. Do the commissions have any suggestions?

a. Conversation about Disability, March 9 (TONIGHT!), 7 pm, University Union near
the old Starbucks, Matthew
i. This will be recorded

b. NAU 4 all Scavenger Hunt, March 25, 3:00 – 5:00, Location south campus
i. Jamie mentioned that many other schools are interested in the model of
the scavenger hunt. He has been asked to write an article for the
Chronicle about the scavenger hunts.
c. New Directions in Diversity series event: Walking the Fine Line: Diversity,
Inclusion, and Access at NAU. Chris and Lauren have been working to pull
together this Faculty Development symposium. It will be held April 8 th from 11-1.
Everyone is welcome.
d. The introduction to the Disability Heritage Month montage will be filmed soon.
e. Matthew is submitting a proposal to the diversity conference
i. Students will have an exhibit in the Tunnel of Oppression
f. Future events
i. Possibly bring author of new book about Buck v Bell, Adam Cohen, to
campus to discuss eugenics and disability.
1. Maybe partner with Martin Springer?
ii. Maysoon Zayid is an ambassador for disability issues and is currently in
Phoenix. Kathy is reaching out to her to see if she would be interested in
coming to Flagstaff for a presentation and possible collaboration.
VII. Associated Students of Northern Arizona University and Diversity at NAU
a. Dallas Diaz, diversity director for ASNAU
i. Is very excited to work with CDAD.
ii. She attended a deaf culture conference and learned a lot from the
interpreter at the diversity week event
iii. She would like to help with DHM events and the scavenger hunt
iv. She can table through ASNAU and utilize the listserv and facebook
account

Other Business
a. SDS has been cancelled.
i. They are talking about the possibility of a mini conference online
1. Matthew isn’t sure how that will work yet, he’ll keep us posted.
b. AUCD 5 year proposal needs to be submitted soon
i. Sustainability of the program needs to be addressed within the proposal
ii. Discussion with provost for funding of DIS minor is high on the list
iii. With all of the diversity minors currently seeking hard money funding, it
might be a good idea to pull together a forum of stakeholders to discuss
working together to accomplish this goal. Dallas would like to be a part of
this discussion.
1. This could be a good opportunity for the commissions to
collaborate as well and pool resources.
