Chris and Lauren met with LGBTQIA, CSW, Christine Lemley, and the folks at Faculty Development. We have set a tentative date range for the spring symposium for February 23-25. A guest speaker from Oregon State, Brenda McComb, will be on campus during that time and would be a nice discussant for the proposed topic “Troubling the Body Politic.” We are tentatively planning to have her conclude our session. Update on NAU “Visioning” (draft document was provided to all commissioners) a. Accessibility statement in new 2025 visioning is really big i. It provides an opportunity for us to push the UD piece 1. Although accessibility and UD aren’t exactly the same ii. This is a great jumping off point b. New buildings showcase physical UD i. These buildings show our initiatives at work but also how we support other groups and initiatives – all gender restrooms, lactation rooms, etc. ii. The new SAS and Aquatic Center 1. Main entrances gently sloping sidewalk off of main route of travel, for example iii. Can we get a “features display” placed inside each of the buildings? 1. Screens are in the SAS, maybe we can put slides on these about the features. 2. Maybe we can work with the museum studies program to create a display iv. In the SAS custom graphics have been designed to display an algorithm in a number of different symbolic representations including Braille 1. Jamie talked to them about having actual Braille plaques so nonvisual users can participate. PO Box 4142 Flagstaff, AZ 86011-4142 (928) 523-0708 (fax) IV. v. Perhaps the best way to have a display is to pick six ways that UD is used in the building and talk about those 1. Matt Minister and Jamie Axelrod volunteered to work on the six items – perhaps have an article in NAU News Other/New Business a. Construction update i. The sidewalk north of the Geology Annex will be part of the concrete plan for this summer ii. The pedway beginning just north of the Union to DuPont will be redone this summer iii. ADA Fund update 1. Facility Services has requested use of part of the holding account to create an all gender restroom in SBS West. We’d like to see how the Cline Library restroom plays out first because that is our priority for our pledged portion of the funding. If it is funded through other means then we can discuss the SBS West restroom. b. ESE 599: Inclusive Practices through Universal Design i. This is an online, full semester course beginning this spring. There are currently three registered c. NAU 4 All i. They are regrouping and plan to be back on track for the spring semester.
