EL CAMINO COLLEGE Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of November 26, 2001 Present: Dr. Caldwell, Ms. Caldwell, Ms. Ely, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Mr. Marston, Dr. Simon and Ms. Smith. TEAM REPORTS President - Dr. Thomas M. Fallo President Fallo reported that he was disappointed about the decision not to go ahead with the bond measure in the March election. President Fallo stated that we should, however, follow the recommendation of Mr. Kinney’s firm. President Fallo reported that the parameters that were set for the food court proposal included the ability to provide capital investment and provide quality food at three locations. It is the intention of President Fallo to keep the campus clear of vehicles, advertisement and vendors. It was decided to put Procedure 801 on the January 2002 agenda. President Fallo stated that if we can get the planning and consultation function down we may be able to have more prediscussion. AFT, Local 1388 - Dr. Angela Simon Dr. Simon reported that Dave Westberg had inquired about changing the summer 2003 calendar to two 5-week summer sessions with one session overlapping. It was reported that the soonest the summer session could be changed would be for summer 2004. It was also reported that the person making the request must bring for reasons and rationale for the calendar change. Dr. Simon is going to suggest that Dave Westberg meet with President Fallo Tuesday at 2:00. Dr. Simon identified a need to complete the development of the Collegial Consultation process, which will alleviate future problems. Administrative Services - Mr. Victor Hanson Mr. Hanson met with Jennifer Apple and Joshua Lawson to discuss the food court proposal. Two of the students’ concerns were that prices would be consistent with fast food prices and they wanted to ensure that there would be income of $75,000 per year. Mr. Hanson reassured them on both items. Mr. Hanson reported that the recommendation for the food court proposal is very strong at this point. When the contract with the previous food vendor was terminated the Cater Craft trucks and P & A Foods were brought in on an interim basis until a permanent solution was identified. The Cater Craft trucks were never meant to be permanent and they came in under those conditions. Associated Students Organization – Ms. Jennifer Apple After meeting with Mr. Hanson, Ms. Apple reported (via telephone) that she and Mr. Lawson met with Harold Tyler to discuss the food court proposal. The students would like to put 3 suggestion boxes on campus; information regarding the changes suggested by the Administration would be laminated to the boxes and cards would be made available for suggestions. The cards will have a place to note whether student, staff, faculty or other. Dr. Caldwell will meet with Harold Tyler to address this request. El Camino Classified Employees - Ms. Luukia Smith Ms. Smith expressed her feeling that there had already been a decision made to accept the food court proposal before bringing it to College Council. Ms. Smith reported that Janet Clarke already informed the Cater Craft vendors that their contract would not be renewed due to the new food court. Student and Community Advancement - Dr. Patricia Caldwell Dr. Caldwell distributed the proposed El Camino College Vision, Mission and Values statement for review. The committee approved this statement as presented.
