Minutes of the College Council Meeting of February 9, 2004
Present: Dr. Fallo, Dr. Caldwell, Ms. Ely, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Ms. Pickens, Ms. Smith, Dr. Simon,
and Ms. Stewart.
1. If our full time/part time faculty ratio is dropped to 340 we may only have to hire 4 faculty
members. We are still working with Chancellor’s office to find out what our number is. We
have two faculty members that may retire. Advertisements went out for 15 faculty positions.
2. Three big fiscal issues are: equalization, growth and non-credited FTES. There is discussion at
the State level of going back and funding unfunded growth. We are working on doing 3% over
cap enrollment. We can achieve this even if we remove the L series courses. We are well
placed for this year and strategically placed for next year.
3. We are sending a response to David Viar at Community College League of California giving
our position on equalization.
4. Flex day will include a brief State of the College address. Campus maps will be available.
5. The voice mail change over will be discussed in Dr. Hata’s faculty letter. There will also be an
explanation posted to Infonet.
6. The schedule included the incorrect date for the last day for students to drop without a notation.
The correct date is March 1st rather than March 3rd. Bill Mulrooney is sending a notice out with
this correction and Dr. Hata will mention it in her letter to faculty.
7. At this time we are planning on having a winter session in 2005. The final decision will be
made in October or November 2004.
8. Admissions, Records and the Cashier office will be open on Fridays during the first few weeks
of school.
9. There will be a Public Agenda item presented by the Union on the Board Agenda asking Board
members to endorse Propositions 55, 56, 57 and 58.
