Algebra 2 Mrs. Hill Welcome (back) to Southmoore High School! I am excited to be your Algebra 2 teacher this year and look forward to getting to know you. If at any time you need assistance please do not hesitate or procrastinate in getting help. I will be available before school beginning at 7:45, at lunch if you let me know you are coming, or after school any day except Wednesday during first semester. The math lab is available Tuesday through Thursday from 3:10-4:10. Algebra 2 Concepts: Algebra 2 is a continuation of the algebraic process begun in Algebra 1. This course includes solving equations, polynomials and factoring, rational and irrational numbers, quadratic equations, exponential functions, logarithms, sequences & series, and conic sections. Materials needed for the student’s use: math book, composition notebook, spiral notebook or loose leaf paper, pencil, red pen, a calculator for at home use Materials student needs to provide to the teacher for her classroom use: AAA batteries for the graphing calculators and Kleenex. 1st & 3rd hours: also bring a package of loose leaf paper and a package of markers 5th & 6th hours: also bring a package of graphing paper and markers Materials provided: Calculator for classroom use Grading Policy: I will follow the district grading policy for your total class grade. 100 – 90 A 89 – 80 B 79 – 70 C 69 – 60 D below 60 F Grading Breakdown: 1. Tests: A test will be given at the conclusion of each Chapter to assess mastery of that chapter. Tests are worth 100 points each. District quarterly tests will also count as 100 points. Students may retake one Chapter test per semester within one week of that test being returned to the student. 2. Quizzes: Quizzes will be given both announced and unannounced. Point values vary between 10 and 50 points depending upon the length and difficulty level. 3. Homework: Homework will be assigned as a means of practicing new concepts we have learned. In order to receive credit the problems must be written out with work shown. Homework assignments are worth 10 points each. I will only accept three late assignments for full credit per quarter. Additional assignments may be completed in my room before or after school for half credit. 4. Math Journal: Students will write in their math journal everyday either by completing bell work or answering questions. Journals will be graded periodically as a homework grade. (10 points) Journals will be kept in the classroom. 5. Midterm/Final Exam: Your semester exams will be worth 20% of your final class grade. Absences: If you are absent you may get your assignment from the assignment board in the classroom. It is your responsibility to get your missing work! You have two days to make up assignments for each day you are absent before it is considered a late assignment. An absence the day before the test does not excuse you from the test. If you are present on test day then you will take the test! Cell Phone Policy: Students are not permitted to have cell phones out during class time. I will assume a student is cheating if a cell phone is out during a quiz/test. Tardy Policy: The Southmoore High School Tardy Policy is as follows: 1st and 2nd Tardy: Warning 3rd and 4th Tardy: 10 minute lunch detention and parent contact 5th Tardy: Office Referral On line Textbook: Go to classzone.com and find your textbook.
