Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to diagnose
sub-standard semi-worsted carding machine performance, and
rectify card machine or component faults.

Explanatory notes
1
Competence will be demonstrated on a card used in the candidate’s workplace.

Performance of the elements must comply with the Health and Safety in Employment
Act 1992.

Workplace productivity and quality requirements must be met.

It is recommended that persons credited with this unit standard know the handling
procedures for electronic circuit cards.

Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or documented procedures for performing
work activities and include health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality
management requirements. They may refer to manuals, manufacturer's
specifications, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Diagnose sub-standard semi-worsted carding machine performance.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Cause of sub-standard machine performance is identified and corrective action
chosen in accordance with workplace procedures.
1.2
Corrective action is prioritised in relation to production schedule and resource
constraints in accordance with workplace procedures.

Outcome 2
Rectify card machine or component faults.
Range
components and mechanisms may include combs and comb boxes, hopper and
feed mechanisms, drive system, burr removal, electronic components, coiler
and can handling.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Mechanism is removed and/or disassembled to enable replacement or repair in
accordance with workplace procedures.
2.2
Mechanism components are assessed for replacement or repair in accordance
with workplace procedures.
2.3
Replacement or repair is carried out in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.4
Mechanism is reassembled and/or replaced on card in accordance with
workplace procedures.
2.5
Repaired mechanism is reset and/or tuned to operate to machine specification
in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.6
Card is tested and retuned for optimum performance in accordance with
workplace procedures.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by
the last date for assessment set out below.
