Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare the
print station for a production run in accordance with workplace
practices, and follow safety requirements for the machine being
used.

Explanatory notes
1
All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice,
and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for
personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the
obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment
Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource
Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments.

Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or
workplace.

Competence in this unit standard may be demonstrated by making ready for a repeat
production task at any converting machine having a print station.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Prepare the print station for a production run in accordance with workplace practices.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The sequence of steps and checks to prepare the print station is carried out.
Range
steps may include but are not limited to – zeroing the machine,
unlocking, opening up.
1.2
Inks and stereos from the previous production run are removed.
1.3
Stereos and equipment at the print station are cleaned of ink from the previous
production run.
1.4
Any extra cleaning requirements that arise from colour coating are explained.
1.5
New ink is connected and fed to the print station to meet equipment
configuration and specifications.
1.6
Ink diluted by water is discharged without being used for printing.
1.7
Print cylinder is laterally centralised to meet machine configuration and
specifications.
1.8
Stereo is securely mounted on the print cylinder, and centred and aligned to
meet machine configuration and specifications.
1.9
Print station equipment is set to suit board grammage and calliper ensuring that
full control of the board is maintained during passage through the print station.

settings may include – feed rolls, pull rolls, pull collars, pull bands.

Follow safety requirements for the machine being used.

2.1
Machine start up, shutdown and emergency procedures in the workplace are
explained.
2.2
Hazard control measures, as circulated by the company, are described and
followed.
2.3
Hazards or potential hazards in the workplace are identified and reported in
accordance with workplace practices.
