This unit standard is for people who have responsibility for milking cows, without assistance, on dairy farms. On-farm quality management procedures are available from all dairy companies. 3 Cups can also be referred to as clusters. This unit standard is Outcome 1 expiring Milk dairy cows. Outcomes and evidence requirements Evidence requirements 1.1 Cows are bailed quietly and smoothly. 1.2 Cows are checked and prepared for milking in accordance with milk processing company’s requirements. 1.3 Cows are cupped according to on-farm quality management procedures. Range 1.4 one of – circle, flick, cross over, block. Cows are milked hygienically in accordance with on-farm quality management procedures. Evidence requirements 2.1 Cows whose milk is unsuitable for collection are identified and/or isolated from the herd, and recorded in accordance with on-farm quality management procedures. 2.2 Hygiene practices are consistently followed when isolating milk in accordance with on-farm quality management procedures.
