Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. 3 Assessment against this unit standard is to be carried out while under the direction of the machine operator. Outcome 2 Check documentation and confirm requirements for the job are available. Evidence requirements 2.1 Job documentation is checked to ensure that all specifications for the process being undertaken are complete and any discrepancies are reported in accordance with workplace practices. 2.2 Equipment and material requirements, as advised by the machine operator, are confirmed as available. 2.3 Printed substrate is checked for printing faults, and any faults are reported to the machine operator. Range may include but is not limited to – print and gloss-free gluing areas, colour variation, catch up, hickies, print registration, set-off, bleed. 2.4 Packing requirements are selected to meet the requirements of the job documentation, and are confirmed with the machine operator. 2.5 A continuous supply of packing materials is ensured. Range may include but is not limited to – cases, tape, strapping, pallets, liners, labels. Outcome 3 Prepare packaging to meet job requirements. Evidence requirements 3.1 Packaging for completed units is prepared in accordance with the requirements in the job documentation. 3.2 Labels are prepared and all finished packaging is labelled to meet the requirements in the job documentation. Evidence requirements 4.1 Quality of the cartons is checked with the machine operator to ensure that the requirements of the job documentation have been met. 4.2 Feeder is loaded to meet the requirements of the job as advised by the machine operator. 4.3 Quality control checks, as determined by the machine operator, are maintained throughout the run and any defects are identified and reported to the machine operator. Range checks may include but are not limited to – fibre-tear, folding, gluing, printing, scuffing, cutting and creasing. 4.4 Machine is unloaded safely, and at an output level consistent with required production standards and quality. 4.5 Cartons are packed to meet the requirements of the job documentation. 4.6 Waste control procedures are followed in accordance with workplace practices. Range recyclable waste, non-recyclable waste, security waste. Outcome 5 Clean the finishing machine. Evidence requirements 5.1 Equipment is inspected and cleaned in accordance with machine operator’s instructions. 5.2 Area surrounding machine is cleaned in accordance with workplace practices. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
