People credited with this unit standard are able to: obtain dimensions for marking out; select material; mark out job pieces; and cut out pieces. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Obtain dimensions for marking out for canvas fabrication. Evidence requirements 1.1 Overall sizes are established according to client specification. Range from sketch, drawing, plan, sample, specification. 1.2 Individual piece sizes are determined according to company policy. 1.3 Allowances are applied to each piece according to company policy. Evidence requirements 2.1 Material type is determined for each piece according to client specification and company policy. Range specification, sample, workplace directive. 2.2 Material is selected from storage according to company policy. 2.3 Material is checked for faults and size to ensure it can accommodate the job according to company policy. 2.4 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task. Range personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Outcome 3 Mark out job pieces for canvas fabrication. Evidence requirements 3.1 Layout of the pieces is determined for the most economic use of material according to company policy. Range 3.2 Pieces are marked out on the selected material using appropriate marker according to company policy. Range 3.3 job specification, fabric characteristics. markers – french chalk, felt pen, biro, pencil, chalkline. Piece alignment marks are applied according to company policy. Range pen, chalk, holes, cuts, nicks. 3.4 Pieces are marked for product and assembly identification according to company policy. 3.5 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task. Evidence requirements 4.1 Tool for cutting out is selected and checked for sharpness according to company policy. 4.2 Pieces are cut out to the marked lines at the workplace required speed according to company policy. 4.3 Pieces are assembled ready for fabrication according to company policy. 4.4 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task.
