New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 13100 version 3 28-Jun-16 2 of 5 COMMUNITY WORK Contribute to an economic development project in a social service setting 2 This unit standard is intended to provide the opportunity for people to be assessed and awarded credit for their competence in assisting experienced social service workers to implement a plan for economic development. 3 This unit standard may be assessed on the basis of evidence of demonstrated performance in the work place, or through the use of simulated work place situations that closely approximate the performance required in workplace settings. 4 The group or community who are seeking economic development may be a group; family, whānau, hapū, iwi, or other kin group; a community of interest; a community of locality; or a cultural community. People awarded credit for this unit standard demonstrate competence in one service provider context, with any group or community seeking economic development. 5 Glossary Nature of the group or community is determined by reference to factors that include but are not limited to: age and stage of development, cultures, developmental needs, disabilities, gender, goals, health status, interests, kin relationships, language, sexual orientation, socio-economic status. People awarded credit for this unit standard demonstrate competence in one context, with any combination of the above factors. The person seeking award of credit in this unit standard is referred to as a social service worker. Social service workers include but are not limited to community workers, counsellors, kaiāwhina, social workers, kaitautoko, youth workers, and others who deliver social services, whether paid or unpaid. Range: 2.3 models of economic development may include but are not limited to - barter; community business; co-operative; green dollar; family, whānau, hapū, or iwi business; small business development; trust. Evidence is required of selection of one model. Parameters established by the group or community may include but are not limited to - culture, values, and experience of the group or community and of the people with who they form alliances; culture, values, and experience of the people who will implement the strategies; potential for effectiveness in achieving objectives; available resources. Evidence is required in relation to three parameters. Contributions to the plan address the development of essential aspects for the achievement of objectives. Range: essential aspects include but are not limited to - time frame consistent with the use of available resources to achieve objectives; strategies, responsibilities, and accountabilities of people who will be involved in implementing the plan; contingencies; procedures to be followed in relation to contingencies; methods for evaluating progress towards achieving the objectives. Evidence is required of development of three essential aspects.
