People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of preventative maintenance programmes; and implement a service schedule to suit a particular application. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of preventative maintenance programmes. Evidence requirements 1.1 The reason for periodic servicing and preventative maintenance schedules is explained according to manufacturer’s and operator’s manual explanations. Range 1.2 The need to vary service schedules is explained according to manufacturer’s and operator’s manual explanations. Range 1.3 manufacturer's design criteria, prevention of major repairs, customer convenience, fleet requirements, down time. when abnormal driving and operating conditions apply, when distance travelled is very high and very low. The types of preventative maintenance programmes are identified. Range manufacturer's schedules, oil company schedules, transport operator's in-house schedules. Outcome 2 Implement a service schedule to suit a particular application. Evidence requirements 2.1 The importance of adhering to manufacturer's recommendations is identified. Range 2.2 warranty, service limits, research back-up. A decision on the programme to be established for a particular vehicle and/or machine is made according to company policy. Range 2.3 manual system, computer database; vehicle or machine needs, vehicle or machine operation, cost, availability for service, servicing equipment and facilities. The preventative maintenance programme is implemented according to company policy. Range business considerations, setting up the system, driver and operator information.
