NZQA Expiring unit standard 17344 version 4 Page 1 of 2 Title Draw a diagram, and explain the operating principles, of a simple pneumatic power system Level 2 Credits 3 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to draw a diagram of, and explain the operating principles of a simple pneumatic power system. Classification Mechanical Engineering > Fluid Power - Pneumatics Available grade Achieved Entry information Recommended skills and knowledge Unit 20612, Demonstrate knowledge of pneumatics and pneumatic power system, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Explanatory notes 1 The system designed for this unit standard must be of a simple construction and may include but is not limited to one each of the following air-production and airconsumption components: electric motor, compressor, tank, double acting linear actuator or an air motor, two directional control valve, line filter, tubing, pressure regulator. 2 The diagram prepared for this unit standard must be of a graphic symbol type as opposed to a cutaway pictorial diagram. All graphics must conform with BS 29171:1993, ISO 1219-1:1991, Graphic symbols and circuit diagrams for fluid power systems and components: specification for graphic symbols. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Draw a diagram of a simple pneumatic power system. Evidence requirements 1.1 System components are identified using correct graphic symbols. 1.2 The diagram shows the correct relationship between system components. Competenz SSB Code 8104 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 1.3 17344 version 4 Page 2 of 2 The diagram includes a list of all components and their basic specifications. Outcome 2 Explain the operating principles of a simple pneumatic power system. Range components used in the system diagram. Evidence requirements 2.1 The purpose of each component is explained in terms of its function within the system. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below. Status information and last date for assessment for superseded versions Process Version Date Last Date for Assessment Registration 1 23 February 2000 31 December 2015 Review 2 25 May 2004 31 December 2015 Review 3 18 March 2011 31 December 2017 Rollover 4 15 October 2015 31 December 2017 Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR) reference 0013 This CMR can be accessed at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/search/index.do. Please note Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Consent requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the CMRs. The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
