This is a theoretical unit standard for people in the cleaning
industry.
People credited with this standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of procedures for: preparing for cleaning operations;
clearing the fire damaged area; cleaning the fire damaged
area; and completing job-related tasks.

Competence demonstrated during assessment against this standard must comply
with the requirements of:
Employment Relations Act 2000;
Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996;
Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992;
Resource Management Act 1991.

Definitions
A fabric is defined as a cloth or textile made from yarn or fibre.
A material is made from non-woven fabrics, eg leather, vinyl, and suede.
Flat mop is a type of microfibre mop and can be used in a wet or dry condition.
Mop refers to either a string/cotton, sponge or microfibre type, or a flat mop.

Demonstrate knowledge of procedures for preparing for cleaning operations.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Procedures for clearance to enter a building are described in terms of
personnel/organisations to contact.
1.2
Procedures for confirming contract requirements are described in terms of the
extent of work, order of work and time schedule.

Procedures for disconnecting services are described in terms of potential
hazards to personnel and property.

2.1
Procedures for removing and disposing of fire-debris are described in terms of
contractual requirements, and hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
2.2
Procedures for removing and disposing of fire-damaged floor coverings are
described in terms of contractual requirements, and hazardous and nonhazardous materials.
2.3
Procedures for dealing with moveable items are described in terms of on-site
and off-site cleaning.
2.4
Procedures for dealing with personal effects are described in terms of on-site
and off-site cleaning.
2.5
Procedures for dealing with fabrics and/or materials are described in terms of
on-site and off-site cleaning.
2.6
Procedures for documenting and cataloguing all items removed from the site
are described in terms of client requirements and legal liability.

Evidence requirements
3.1
Procedures for removing evidence of smoke and water damage are described
in terms of cleaning method and agents used.
Range
ceilings, walls, floors, windows, fixtures and fittings, toilet and
bathroom facilities, household appliances, chattels, woodwork,
aluminium.
3.2
Use of cleaning equipment is described in terms of manufacturer's
recommendations and type of surface.
3.3
Safety requirements are described in terms of specific site safety plan.
Outcome 4
Demonstrate knowledge of procedures for completing job-related tasks.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Procedures for liaising with client are described in terms of contractual
requirements.
4.2
Procedures for dealing with catalogue lists are described in terms of distribution
to interested parties.
Range
interested parties may include – insurance company or agent,
landlord, property owners, property manager, government
agencies, local authorities, building occupier.

This unit standard, unit standard 25387, and unit
standard 25388 were replaced by unit standard 29393.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by

before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses

NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
