People credited with this standard are able to: prepare for cleaning operations; clean commercial premises; maintain security and confidentiality; and complete job-related tasks. Classification Cleaning and Caretaking > Cleaning Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Competence demonstrated during assessment against this unit standard must comply with the requirements of: Employment Relations Act 2000; Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 Equipment and cleaning agents must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. 3 Definitions Industry best practice refers to any enterprise and/or establishment requirements, practices, policy, procedures, methods and protocols which are in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and New Zealand Standards. Flat mop is a type of microfibre mop and can be used in a wet or dry condition. Mop refers to either a string/cotton, sponge or microfibre type, or a flat mop. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare for cleaning operations. Evidence requirements 1.1 Client's requirements or supervisor’s instructions are confirmed before cleaning operations commence. Range 1.3 specialised equipment to be cleaned, security arrangements, supervision, operation of premises during cleaning. Equipment is either selected individually or from single station equipment and is clean and in working condition. Public is advised of danger by display of warning signs in accordance with industry best practice. Range at least one of – signs, barriers, cordons. Outcome 2 Clean commercial premises. Evidence requirements 2.1 Loose waste is removed before cleaning commences. Range waste bins and baskets, desk tops, counters, floors. 2.2 Damp wiping leaves surfaces free from soil and marks. 2.3 Dusting leaves surfaces free of dust. 2.4 Floor is cleaned until free of loose waste and soil. Outcome 3 Maintain security and confidentiality. Evidence requirements 3.1 Keys are kept in a safe location at all times. 3.2 Security system details are kept confidential. 3.3 Security procedures are followed in accordance with the facility’s policy. 3.4 Client information is kept confidential. 3.5 Authorised personnel are advised of security problems and breaches of confidentiality immediately on detection. Evidence requirements 4.1 Cleaning is completed without damage to furniture, fixtures, and fittings. 4.2 Cleaning is completed with minimum disruption to occupants and public. 4.3 Equipment is cleaned, checked and stored in accordance with industry best practice.
