Range measuring device could include but is not limited to – rules, tapes, spring and friction callipers, protractors, thermometers, mass balances, spring balances, stop watches, spirit levels, plumb bobs, fixed gauges, thread and length, straight edge. Performance criteria 1.1 Techniques for using measuring devices to meet task requirements are established for each device. 1.2 Measuring device is selected to meet the task requirements. Element 2 Complete measurement tasks and perform calculations for boatbuilding. Performance criteria 2.1 Type of calculation required is identified in terms of area, volume, dimensions and weight. Range area includes but is not limited to – regular shapes, irregular shapes, square, rectangle, triangle; volume includes but is not limited to – regular, irregular shapes; dimensions include but are not limited to – overall length, beam, draft, design waterline, displacement, sail area and ratios, frame spacing, stations; weight includes but is not limited to – solids, liquids. 2.2 Measurements are taken to meet the requirements of the working drawings. 2.3 Measurements obtained are recorded according to worksite procedures. 2.4 Calculations are completed accurately to meet task requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
