The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard:
a All required equipment must be set up, started up, operated, and shut down in
accordance with company procedures;
b All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required
under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and subsequent and
delegated legislation;
c All work practices must meet documented worksite quality management
requirements. These include documentation of activities, events, and decisions.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Mark fair lines.
Performance criteria
1.1
Selection and application of method for determining fair lines match company
requirements for cost-effectiveness.
Range
dumpy levels, water levels, battens.
1.2
Lines are sheared to achieve optical fairness.
1.3
Water lines are established to design requirements for vertical and fore-and-aft
trim.
1.4
Marked lines meet job specifications and tolerances for fairness.
Element 2
Prepare fair lines for painting.
Performance criteria
2.1
Selection of masking tape material and width is matched to boat shape,
location, and required line definition.
2.2
Areas not required to be coated are fully protected.
2.3
Masking tape is adhered to substrate across all dimensions.
