Present: Aune, Dahlberg, Dammel, Davis, Edinger, Faure, Hansen, Haugeberg, Henkel, Hoover, Jilek, Johnson, Krueger, Martin, Oakes, Oladosu, Rhyan, Pederson, Shadlock, Wright c. Excused: Miller d. Motion passes New Business a. Gay/Straight Alliance i. Recognizes sexual diversity while advocating and supporting others. ii. Erin motions to recognize the gay/straight alliance. Pederson with the second. iii. Motion passes b. Chinese Club i. Promote friendship between Chinese and American students and the cultures. ii. Nick motions to recognize China Club. Pederson with the second. iii. Motion passes c. Robert’s Rules i. Davis talked to Rob Walsh about speaking and teaching Robert’s Rules to senate. ii. Shouldn’t be on a Viking Ambassadors night d. HLC Visit i. Change of vision and model of VCSU to be more poignant in regards to growth ii. Discussed assessment and need for institutional researcher to culminate data and present it in a useable fashion to the university 1. University would hire someone iii. Gave approval for STEM certificate for the graduate program iv. Increase focus on retention v. Don’t get stuck on the glory days. Had high regards for VCSU and the way students presented themselves. Keep momentum to improve anything we can possibly do. e. Highway Cleanup i. Within the next couple of weeks, we will have highway cleanup. ii. What afternoon would be best 1. Viking Visit Day went really well 1. we had a good turnout ii. next meeting is this Monday, November 7 i. Athletics i. Football j. 1. #15 ranked football team defeated Mayville on Saturday by a score of 28-14. Improving their record to 8-1 on the season. Their last regular season game is this weekend at Robert Morris in Bensenville, IL. ii. Volleyball 1. Lost all four games on the weekend to Minot State, University of Sioux Falls, Lindenwood College and Grand View College. They play Mayville State at home on Wednesday at 7pm. iii. Men’s Basketball 1. Defeated the University of Winnipeg on Friday night by a score of 80-74. They play at home Friday versus Northwestern College. 7:30pm and Saturday versus Dordt College at 4pm. iv. Women’s Basketball 1. Lost to the University of Winnipeg on Friday night by a score of 72-67. They play at home Friday versus Northwestern College, 5:30pm and Saturday versus Dordt College at 2pm. Fine Arts i. Our fall band concert will be held at the HAC this Saturday at 3 p.m. with the N.D. Army Band. ii. Next Monday, November 7th, will be the general Student Recital, which will be held at 7:30 in Froemke Auditorium. VIII. IX. k. Communication and Social Sciences i. Psychology Club is meeting tonight at 9pm in the lower level of the student center 1. They will be discussing movie nights and speakers. 2. All are welcome to attend! ii. CASS Department is touring Greece and Italy the spring of May 2012 if you rare interested. 1. Meeting this Wednesday (Nov. 2nd) at 3:00pm in McFarland 207. 2.
