Facilities Services Weekly Update Meeting

1. Current Projects
a. Vangstad
i. Electrical and mechanical are still caught up with the general’s progress.
ii. Toured with the learning center staff to give an update.
iii. Pat removed the heater from the piano until it gets cold again.
iv. We do have the new cores and they can be installed as soon as the doors are
hung and the hardware installed.
v. Simplex will be here the 10th or 11th to start up the system. Ryan Hammond will
let us know the day ahead of time so we can get an email sent out in the event
of false alarms.
b. Flood Wall
i. Over on Viking the gas line and fiber lines are back in the ground. Concrete is
poured on both sides of the street and they are still trying to get the curb and
gutter poured. They are hoping that in 2-3 weeks they will be able to open for
public use.
ii. Our IT still needs to figure out what they are doing with VCSU fiber lines.
Copper lines still need to go back in because of the fax machines.
iii. Next summer they have 250 loads of dirt that will need to be removed, so the
road will be temporarily blocked at that time.
iv. Ron is working with Chris to figure out how we should resume the project next
spring. We will need to work together to get this project accomplished.
1. If they come in April they will be completed by fall semester. If we
postpone they won’t be able to start until July/August. The intersection
in front of Foss/Graichen will be closed so they can resume their work.
c. Wellness Center
i. Wesley has a meeting tomorrow and will have an update for next week.
d. Heat Plant
i. Ron talked to McGough and they hired MTI to do the soil testing. We will wait
to do any demolition until the soil testing is complete.
1. There are concerns with the house demolition and making sure that
compaction is done correctly.
ii. Working on bid packages for mechanical work.
iii. Ron is still waiting on the health department concerning the asbestos/lead
testing.
e. Back Alley
i. Waiting to figure out budget items before moving forward with the covering.
ii. We have been experimenting with lighting.

i. There are 3 new lights in the alley, 2 on the east side of student center, there is
a new light on the north side of Graichen and the west side, there is a light on
the west side of Foss Hall for the parking lots.
ii. Ron is still working on the lighting in the main parking lots and the storage
building. He is also trying to get new lighting on the new pillars and the walk
bridge.
