Miss Jackson’s Class Weekly News Central Avenue School What We Learned This Week… Math – This week we learned how to use patterns to multiply and divide decimals by powers of ten and divide a decimal by a whole number. We also reinforced our problem solving skills by interpreting remainders. Reading – In our book clubs we continued our Avi author study. We compared and contrasted the settings, characters, structures, and points of view that Avi uses in his books by using venn diagrams. Writing – We continued our literary essay unit by testing our big ideas and developing thesis statements. We used a graphic organizer to organize our information. Then we began drafting the introduction and body paragraphs. Science – This week we learned about Bernoulli’s Principle. Mr. Kemp came in to teach us about airplanes and airfoils and demonstrate how airplane wings achieve lift. We also conducted our own experiments to observe this principle. Congratulations 5J for winning the Golden Tray last week! Let’s work hard to earn it again. 3/17 – 3/21 Dates to Remember Wednesday 3/26 American Choir Assembly Thursday 3/27 2 Hour Delayed Opening No Math Clinic Friday 3/28 Math Clinic 8:10 Chapter 9 Math Test Madison Playwrights Assembly March Birthdays Olivia – 3/12 Miss Jackson – 3/21 Christina – 3/30 Contact Information Phone: 973-593-3173 Email: jacksone@madisonpublicschools.org
