Miss Jackson’s Class Weekly News Central Avenue School What We Learned This Week… Math – This week we learned how to multiply a decimal by a whole number and a decimal by a decimal. We also estimated products by rounding to check that our answers were reasonable. Reading – In our book clubs we continued our Avi author study. We noticed how aspects of Avi’s books such as the settings, characters, and themes are influenced by his life. We also noticed similar crafts Avi uses in his books. Writing – We began our literary essay unit by looking at sample essays to learn what they are. Then we read The Real Thief as a class and looked for examples of the themes we identified which were friendship, betrayal, and greed. Science – This week we learned about airplanes. We identified the parts of a plane and discussed the purpose of each part. We also built paper airplanes and observed how their design affects their flight performance. March Madness starts next week.
