For most students, this assignment teaches them to recognize potential consequences arising from decisions made within an employment environment. I provide samples on Canvas of student reports (concealing author identity). I update these samples at the end of each semester to ensure content is current. I try to present lessons using as examples of businesses that are innovative so that students understand the relevance of the assignment. Students are given two short oral assignments: I ."Elevator Shafi'. presentation (2-4 minutes) explaining what their employment skills are for a position of their choice. 2. Executive summary of their long report. Students team to overcome a common fear of speaking in public and understand that oral communication is an essential key to success in an employment venue. Based on feedback, I modified the " Elevator Shaft" assignment to an "Interview Panel" assignment (for a Business I 07 course) where student teams take turns interviewing each other with questions the team creates. I believe this interview panel assignment asks for more student involvement and I plan to substitute it for the "Elevator Shaft" assignment for future Bus. 106 classes. Outcome#3 Oral Communication in Business - face-to-face courses only Scores on these two assignments average between 87%-95% demonstrating knowledge and confidence gained during class discussions conducted throughout the semester.
